How many lbs of boost can a 335i handle for a long period

Just curious with an upgraded turbo running a lot of boost if they can handle 20-25lbs of boost and get over 100k on the engine without busting something in the internals.
Also are the engines internals forged?

Most of the upgraded turbo kits I have seen have been on earlier build N54 engines which supposedly had forged internals from. Early 2006 builds to 2008.

Well they do 16lbs with a JB4 right? So with upgraded turbos Im sure they can hit 20lbs hopefully that isnt too much. Im guessing around 500rwhp?

Today 500 rwhp is a safe number and is easy to obtain with upgraded turbos. 600 rwhp with a single if you have deep pockets. Sky is the limit once we get a HPFP upgrade. We also have a lot of new upgraded turbo options coming soon. I'm sure we'll figure out where the breaking point is soon. Lots of cool stuff in the works this year.

RP? Rob Beck? Has a upgraded twins option to market and readily available.

Vishnu has a single turbo option that seems to work

Vargas has upgraded twins coming out 'real soon'

That's about it for products that aren't vapourware/remote mount trash.

Garage List

it sucks that after 4-5 years there is still not a proven upgraded hpfp pump that is obtainable .... kinda funny at the same time all other platforms after this amount of time have tons more mods available , cant wait to see what 2013 brings !

these threads are just as stupid as "if i have x, x, and x mods, can i beat my friend who has a xxx, with x, x, and x mods?"

seriously?

i could run 35 lbs on stock turbos on a car that i could use to drive to work everyday and never dip into boost. or i could run 35 lbs and stomp on the gas from every intersection i leave and around every corner i come out of.

nobody here is going to be able to tell you anything relevant to YOUR driving style because everyone on here has a different style.

That's a little harsh man, the guy just wants to know how these engines are holding up as we crank up the boost...

Ya dude. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all. I'm pretty sure there are some dumb questions you asked before, so next time don't be such a grouch or just don't say anything at all cause trust me and I not the only one that wants to tell u this. Everyone on here should just help each other out, you should try that before you make smart ass posts...and if there just as stupid why do u take the time to post in them. Maybe you shouldn't waste your time otherwise it's lookin like your just as stupid as the next guy for bein an a******

Noone really knows OP, until the stock fueling limitations are overcome, the bottom end hasn't really been put through its paces. There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of FBO N54s running at/around 400whp for years with no internal crank issues, and a good number of 500whp guys doing the same with RBs. The Shiv big single seems to be pushing the most power, but at that point it's the tranny i'd really be concerned about. I believe VAC had a post showing that earlier N54s had very well cast pistons with forged rods; the crank has shown itself to be pretty damn robust so far.

25 psi isnt 25 psi

25psi on a smaller say 6262 is probably fine and i think has been done on some vishnu cars however if you run 25 psi on a bigger turbo say a 6766 that puts alot more stress on the engine because it flows more which in the end bends rods

as a point of reference the stock crank from s/m52's has been good to hold well over 1000whp....literally no need for aftermarket cranks. People have knife edged them but thats about it.

I have no idea if the n54 is as robust but being that it was built for boost I would assume its at least as strong.

Really, only 18psi on 94 octane? I am running 25psi on 94.

This is a dumb question and an oversimplification. Depends on the turbos used. You can blow up a motor at 5psi or 45psi, there is a lot more to it than that.

What is all this PSI talk?

Engines handle power, and torque specifically.

Nobody has currently blown the motor from power alone. I would say somewhere in excess of 600WHTQ would snap something but it's really a guessing game.
