Left Brake Lamp Malfunction
So I get in my car last week and I get the "Left Brake Lamp Malfunction" message every time I get in the car (stays steady, does not come and go). The tail light appears to work perfectly fine (no blinking or flashing). However, I had a friend hold down the brake while I looked at the light and I can see a small part of the brake light looks a little dim.
I have looked all around this forum and the web and from what I see, I am fairly certain I have to replace the light housing due to a defect covered in one of the TSBs (B63-03-12). I am guessing I would have to pay for this out of pocket, but since I have CPO I thought I would ask and see if anyone has gotten this covered under CPO. I would hate to go to the dealer and have them charge me $130 to diagnose the problem, only to be told, I need to pay for the tail light housing out of pocket. I will call the SA tomorrow morning also, but I am not confident he will answer my question clearly thats why I am asking here. If it is not covered under CPO, it looks like I can buy the part online at Tischer and just install it myself pretty easily. I checked realoem to find the part number and double checked on Tischer. Is the following part number the correct one for the left tail light assembly? 63217289429 |

Brake lights in our cars have two bulbs per side, so one of them is out if the one side is darker then the other. To find out which one take the housing off and let someone to press on brake pedal while the bracket bulbs housing is off. The easiest way to find burned bulb.

When I had a rear light go out, my car started using a different pair of bulbs on the back. Smart car.
With that, you should check all the bulbs even if they all light up. Rear bulbs on our cars always have issues. Usually on the rear bulbs you have to clean up the bulb and terminals with sandpaper. I like to bend the prongs on the terminal a bit too so there is better contact. |

Sedan or coupe? If an 09 coupe, you probably need the bulb carrier. They are not LED. If a sedan, with the LED tails, the circuit board is bad and requires the whole assembly to be replaced.

Ericfox11, thanks for the offer, but I should just suck it up and buy the tail lamp new so I don't run into this problem again.
David1, it is a sedan with LED tails. I was talking to the parts guy at the dealership and he showed that there was a bulb holder that was a separate part. Wouldn't the circuit board be a part of the bulb holder and thus could be replaced without getting a new assembly? |

I stumbled upon another thread where you can find the CC-ID code. When I look I get the code CC-ID 136.
Should I just stop investigating now and just order a new tail light assembly? |
