I put mine in a 5.45% 9mo CD...great rate IMO. All proceeds are going towards the new M3!

I don't get money back, I have to pay them . Nah it's all good though, since I'm self employeed I don't pay taxes until the end of the year which I don't mind so much. This way I know I'm paying exactly what is owed. Plus I get to make money of off my taxes over the year. Each paycheck I deduct the amount that should be taxed and throw it into a money market, whatever is left over in the end is my tax return. I also have the option to pay my taxes quarterly, which this will be my first go around filing self employeed. My Dad has been doing it for years and it seems to work great for him, although my brother bitches about it but he seems to bitch about everything anyways

I don't like getting anything back and my $45 return might buy a decent meal out one night. I don't understand why people like to receive large checks at the end of the year that gives the Govt a free loan for a year People don't know how to save or don't use the IRS witholding calculator right?

I did not ask about last year. There were no cuts in the marginal tax rates last year. If there is a change in your refund it means less was withheld or, more likely, your deductions changed.

I have no doubt you can add 3 numbers, it is putting together 3 rational thoughts that is in question.

we just got married last year and are getting a refund this year.

I am a little pissed.

The problem with refunds is that the govt. considers it income in the year it was received wich means that it gets double taxed. You already paid it as tax in the previous year! So not only does the geovt. get a free loan from you, they bend you over and give it to you in the rear besides just for being stupid.

Before my time there was no withholding. But the government decided that it was easier to enforce the tax if it was withheld from income. Fortunately for the government, and unfortunately for all of us, the IRS has an easier time collecting high taxes without much complaint by enforcing withholding.

Some idiots actually want the government to collect higher rates of tax. That's really something when federal income tax was supposed to be a temporary tax to fund national defense for World War I.

Never let a new tax be created, or to allow a tax rate to increase. It is next to impossible for the government to let a tax expire.

Mine is going towards my downpayment. It allowed me to place my order a month early, whoohoo!!!
On the other hand, my wife's income is getting dual-taxed by the US and UK . Blood sucking governments!!!
