Question about digital compass in rearview mirror
Hi! I'm new to BMWs ... so this may be a silly question.
I have an '07 e90 with premium package and navigation. Yesterday when I was driving back home from work, I noticed the digital compass LED readout in my rearview mirror was very faint, almost invisible. I turned the car off and restarted at a red light, but that did not affect anything. I mentally prepared myself for a visit to the dealer, but then I noticed the compass readout getting brighter and brighter until it was back to normal. Is this typical behaviour or is the readout failing? The day was very sunny, so I'm not sure if the auto-dimming affects the readout somehow. |

In my '08 the orange digital readouts in the gauge cluster turn to white when under direct sunlight. Not sure if the compass in the mirror does the samething or not.

I have a somewhat similar issue when the interior is hot from sitting in the hot Florida sun. The Direction image doesn't appear until the AC cools the interior down a bit and then the image starts to appear. The cooler the interior, the brighter the image.

had same problem on my audio screen. On hot summer days, the fonts are croocked...But during fall, it's bright, crisp, and no missing pixels.

Thanks! My car is black on black, and it was out in the hot sun for around 6 hours, so it must have been the heat.
I guess I should try to find some shade for it, one of my friends keeps saying that these german cars are not designed for the heat that we see in Houston (~103F). |
