busted electric water pump autopsy

I've just replaced my 335i water pump. After I was done, I decided to open up the failed pump just to see how it was made inside and look at what broke off inside. As you can see on the picture, it's not usual to have coolant in the motor section. Probably this is what made that my 50A fuse burned.

What's the green plastic and where's it come from?
