Man I heard so many incidents of people being stuck on the hwy and elsewhere!!! I am in Chapel Hill too, drove back from Mebane around 1:30 and reached around 2:30pm in one piece.. have read that in snow, DTC off, should help occassionally.. call AAA or BMW Roadside assistance depending on what coverage u've got..

I got stuck today saw a few other e90s stuck also. Summer tires + RWD is just a bad combination for these conditions.

I did have one person suggest using the floor mats to gain traction (didn't get to try this myself). Would obviously toast the mats, but might be worth a shot.

I drove home from downtown Raleigh to Garner around 1 today. It was rough going. Took me almost an hour. There were times going up South Saunders I wasn't sure I was going to make it. If I could keep momentum all was good. But starting from a standstill was brutal. You should have seen me working the clutch, modulating the throttle, and riding the traction control. Skillz, man, skillz!

This is one of the few times I'm glad to have an X drive car. Stay safe out there!

Momentum was my issue. Had multiple stop cold on a hill in front of me *facepalm*.

My car in garage bound until this blows over. Took out the wife's Q5 today (quattro) to pick up the kids and it was great in the snow. First time I've used it in this type of weather.

Here's how it looked in my area:

^^ yikes. I kept screaming at the people in front of me to just keep moving. I didn't care if it was 5mph, i just didn't want to stop. I fishtailed countless times, but ultimately kept it fairly straight. I wished I could have driven the wife's AWD MDX to work.

Can't even get up my driveway in anything we own. Bad time to have 3 rear wheel drive sports cars...

HUGE REMINDER - if you are thinking about driving out on the roads, make sure that you check to see if they are Officially Closed first.

City of Raleigh: http://www.raleighnc.gov/home/conten...fficAlert.html

NC State DoT 551 line is the automated line that includes info on closures.

If you crash while driving on a road that has been officially closed, you are breaking the law, which will VOID THE INSURANCE !!!

I was trapped in Birmingham, AL for 4 days during the Great Blizzard of '93 and learned this from a trucker who kept us from trying to get out early.

Well, after attempting to go home twice, getting stuck... getting picked up by a friend, going back to the car parked on shoulder of i-40, and a lot of forward/backwards with some pushing, i was able to get going on i-40 off of wade ave doing minor fishtails (which was kinda fun to countersteer against) all the way back to exit 273. My worst fear was not being able to make it up the exit ramp but she made it. Back home now. It was funny to see all the rwd sports suffer... saw a lotta e90s, e46's, mercs, mustangs, camaros....

Well here's my car 5 hours ago...we have ~14" on the ground currently and I tried driving. Made it down my driveway and decided it was way too icy and went back.

Check the link for traffic cam footage of the roads. I live in Sanford and am planning a route to get to my GF in Raleigh and this site has been really helpful.

One of those times I'm happy I got called for a mission in South America. Capturing bad guys in 100 degree whether is so much better then fishtailing and getting stuck on 40 at home. Haha.

Stay safe out there guys

I just took a walk out to US 64 in Apex and although the main roads are better than I expected, anything else is just a mess and would be very very hard to drive. I would stay indoors unless you really have to go out.
