make sure you just don't skimp on the lubricant (Quick detailer, soap, whatever you use) I wouldn't worry too much It is not that hard.

Cut it up, that way if you drop it you don't lose the whole bar.

If you drop the piece of bar you are using on the ground, it is garbage. Don't continue to use it.

edit: Which picus was alluding to.

You can fold a piece that has been worked but don't use one that falls on the ground. Ground contamination is much larger than what is coming off the paint.

+1 This is probably the biggest mistake a person can make when using clay. TONS of lube, whether it is Z-7 car wash or quick detailer--make sure there is a LOT of it on the surface of the paint. This will keep the clay picking up the contaminants on your surface without becoming abrasive.

My method for insuring enough lube is to wash the car first then change out to fresh Z7 and rinse buckets and wash a second time using the soapy water as lube. Works great and washes the car a second time with the clay process and Z7 is a buck cheaper than Z6.

I cut a clay bar into about 6 pieces and never reuse dropped pieces. I trash any dropped clay but have learned to hold onto it over the years.

Yeah--the Z-7 seems to be the easiest to me--and it is not like you are wasting anything per se--I like to wash the car off quickly after claying, so I am already good to go!

Yup, my titanium watch has done untold damage around my house, but so far my cars have come away unscathed.

So you can use any car shampoo as lubricant??

I have never used a clay bar, maybe I should try
