Where to install alarm in GTA?
Since the 2009 doesn't come pre-wired with an alarm, the dealer will probably not install an OEM alarm for me right? And even if they do, it'll be at a ridiculous price?
I decided not to order the alarm because I didn't think it's needed, then this past weekend when I was out of town, 4 cars on my street got broken into. And now I'm looking for a place to install an alarm system. Anyone know of a place to install it? Would anyone know approximately how much? If only they were still pre-wired, then I can order one from Ticsher and just have the dealership re-program it after I install it myself. |

Well, if it has the blinking lights inside that indicates it has an alarm then it will reduce the chances a little bit. Why break a car window of a car that makes noise when you can go next door and break into some other car?
And even if it does, when the car is being broken into, at least we have a better chance of spotting the culprit. |

AW09E92,
Do you know when your car was built? I have an '09 328 xDrive e92 and it came prewired... (you can check if you have the clown nose on your mirror, and that wire/clip under your hood for the hood pin). I just put in the OE alarm 2 weeks ago (not activated yet). Even unactivated, the clown nose thing still flashes and goes off when the door is opened or when you stick your arm in the window.. so not bad for $200 I suppose... If you have a post march 2009 build and don't have prewiring... I think you're better off getting an aftermarket 2-way alarm (like a compustar or something) - it's WAY cheaper than paying the dealer to run the wiring hardness for the alarm all over your car. Good luck! |

I am looking for an aftermarket one, so that's why I'm taking suggestions of what brand and what shop would install it from other members. Thanks for suggesting compustar, I'll look into it. |

sorry.. I misread it.. hard to look at these forum posts on a blackberry browser
Believe it or not, my friend actually swears by going to the Futureshop car audio place... I guess it depends on which futureshop you go to.. but at least u get the big name warranty. Here's the one my friend got: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gon=&langid=EN I've also read good reviews on the vipers: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gon=&langid=EN Good luck! and, please, let me know how the aftermarket alarm/starter works for you! (kind of interested in getting a starter myself... for another car ) |

This is pretty good, $350 + $150 installation. Much better than getting the OEM assuming it all works. I guess the only downside is having two remotes and also possibly voiding warranty on any computer related issues because the wiring has been tampered with during the installation. I'm pretty sure BMW is going to find a way to say they won't be responsible for any wiring related issues.
