I'd deffo go for the mk5 GTI, great handling cars, 2.0 petrol fuel economy unltil you drive it hard on boost, but even then it's still not 'that' bad on fuel.
mates had one for 5 years and it's been almost flauless and driven hard on a daily basis. Wouldn't go near an astra VXR, awfull awfull cars to drive..

In the little bit different catagory, what about a Mazda 3 MPS?
The newer shape might dip to about 13k in the not to distant future. The old one was a little bland and also in top road tax band, whilst the new one is not. A little heavier on petrol though. |

Here is a little review EVO done with the MPS against a tuned ST. A MPS will give a Focus RS a run for it's money for straightline speed. |

I'm with the Golf too, had a GTi Mk V for 2 years and the Ed30 must be better. Very easy to remap. Very classy car and lovely place to be, quite understated looks but decent performance and handling.

Nope, you're all wrong.
Seat leon cupra. Same as the golf with better brakes and 5 doors. Buy it in that beautiful infirni black colour, still got some change to make it go like stink (And that they do quite easily!) Thread now closed.
