I don't think CA cops give nice BMW's to much shit for not having a front plate. I've been pulled over a few times and as long as you're respectful they won't mess with you and give you misc fix it tickets.

Went for many years in Ca without fronts

I was at about 13 years in the Integra before I got a no front
ticket on it. It was the town parking gestapo that got it .
Its just a correction ticket .
Never did put fronts on the e46 had it for 8 years. It kind of depends
on where you live how they are going to be about enforcing it.
The e91 already had brackets so I just put them on.

So just keep in mind that having no front plates (or tinted front windows) is another excuse for a cop to pull you over. Just don't drive like a d-bag and you should be good 95% of the time.
Other moral of that story is don't drive drunk!

I totally don't blame him for pulling you over on a technicality in an attempt to nab a drunk driver, but honestly, if I'd pulled you over only to find out you weren't drunk, I'd probably have just thanked you for being responsible and let the plate go totally.

Made it 4 years here in MA with no front plate. Pulled over for it once only, made up an excuse and received a warning. Couldn't justify wasting time and money for something so stupid. You need a front plate for inspections here though, so I used some of that 3M not too sticky stuff that comes with the stick on wall hooks. I stick it on in the lot before inspection and peel it off on the way out. Bought a pack of them way back when and I just leave them in the trunk next to my front plate. And by the way, the license plate is where police officers usually aim their laser when they aren't using it to warm their genitals. I'm sure it works on other parts of the car (and body), but not having the plate might make him or her move along to the next car.

They don't mess around with anything, I make sure the car and my driving are on the straight and narrow when i'm over in that part of the DMV. It's just not the state you want to get pulled over in, they'll happily destroy your day.
I see you've been stopped here in VA

I live in VA but I'm registered in my home of record (MN). They still require fronts in MN but no one here knows it and I've never been bothered.

Weird, because no car I've ever had has had one nor have I gotten a ticket but they do happen. I still won't put one on though. Haha

I like your style, but there's no way that's actually a legal mounting. My roommate runs a current valid registration German plate with his initials. Actually, by now it's probably not current, but it hasn't been voided

My state Virginia requires front plates so I've never really thought much about it. However my friend just got a new car and he didn't put the front license plate on, and has been riding around for 8 months with no problem!

Ohio law (If I'm correct) reads the plate must be visible from 50ft in front of the car. This is no different than putting it on your dash. I've never had any issues with it for almost 6 years in both my bimmers.

Got my car last fall without any holes drilled in the front bumper, although the mount and hardware were in the trunk. I ended up getting a tow hook mount from Turner.

I personally haven't been (thank god), but I know people who've been tagged, and it's always bad news. The second you clear 80 in VA you're asking for a world of trouble, not just an obnoxious monetary fine and a few points.

80+ can come with an automatic night in jail, reckless speeding ticket and a host of other fines and points

here in Portland, OR....meter maids can now ticket you for no front plate displayed & the fine is $80 now. It's not the cops that get you here and there is no fix-it ticket with the parking gestapo....

Man, looking into it, you could pretty comfortably interpret the law to suggest that a visor mount is legal here in CA. Really all it says is 'visible from the front, <60" from the ground." Certainly LESS visible, but I'm curious what a judge would say.

Depends on how big of a dbag you are. If you find yourself in front of a judge, it's already too late or you've got bigger problems. Keep your nose clean and in theory you'll be alright. Then again, I've never live in Cali for mare than a few months, so who knows. I figure if they've got time to write you a ticket for a front plate, then they've fixed all the rest of the crime out there...right?

Well, I mean if you were to try to contest the front plate citation. They do get written in the absence of any other violation, for sure. Granted, with one on your visor, a cop is probably less likely to do so since it may well be a huge waste of time.

And you'd think, wouldn't you, but no. Then again, the fact that they're so busy dealing with all the murder and theft in LA is probably why cruise set to 85 is a de facto standard on LA freeways. No cops around to enforce a speed limit. That is, if you can break 40mph in traffic in the first place.

Is there an Ohio law against running two different plates on the front at the same time? LOL.
