Thanks for the compliments guys!

Primes are great. It makes you work for the shot and shooting on the open side generates some great bokeh. I'd love to pick up another 3 or 4 primes and 2 zooms.
Realistically:
EF 24mm f/1.4L USM
EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
EF 100mm f/2 USM
EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM
EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

All of which would be equipped with B&W filters.

You have a great eye. I suspect most of us with access to the same gear and the same scenes wouldn't pull off shots nearly as nice.

To be honest, skip on the 50mm 1.4 since the bokeh is not that much better and also on the 100 f/2

If you want to upgrade your 50mm, save for the 1.2L instead and instead of the 100mm, grab the 135L. Then just add a 1.4TC and have a close match for the 200 2.8L. Skip on the filters also if using hoods. Holds better contrast in most conditions.

Slow shutter exp looks good.

I was thinking about going all out on primes instead of zooms, but for me changing a lens is too much of a hassle. I'd rather carry 3 lenses - wide-angle, mid-range zoom, telephoto - instead of 5+ primes to cover the same focal length.

I do a lot of studio Shooting so I use for my Primary Setup

Canon Rebel XTi
Canon BG-E3
Canon Speedlite 430EX and 430EX II both on Slave with 46" umbrella
Canon ST-E2
Canon 50mm f/1.4

I'm looking to get a 70-200mm f/2.8 because the 50 mm is really for studio use and I don't need anything more. I"m also saving up for the Canon 5D MK 2.

I'll be broke and selling my organs soon.

It's an awesome camera! I just got some new gear and I'm loving it even more

My gear:
Canon 5D Mark II
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 IS
Canon 580EX II

Still waiting on the wide-angle and battery grip...then I'll be set for life!

Didn't really have to sell my organs. Sold a ton of stuff around the house though; garage sales + Craigslist FTW!

Hmm I've only had it for about a week and haven't brought it to any major events or shoots yet. But my first impression coming from a Nikon was that it was shit. Canon skimped on the material quality like the rubbers and plastic, and even their lens caps are horrid! The $100 50mm f/1.8 II felt like a McDonald's Kid's meal toy, while the Nikon that I had was entirely made of metal and even had a rubber focus ring! I miss Nikon's auto-focusing system which completely blows this one out of the water. At times I regretted getting the 5D2 instead of the D700, but I figured I would get used to it.

I'm VERY impressed by the image quality and ISO. It holds natural colors in high ISOs extremely well compared to the D700 (I compared them side-by-side at a store) which would lose contrast, and if indoors, turn orange/yellow, but that was probably due to the flickering lights I was underneath.

I haven't had it long enough to declare it an AWESOME camera, but that day will hopefully come this weekend - Northwest BMW BBQ meet!

Compared to Nikon, the 5D2 is made for the artsy-type person or the guy with a studio that can take the time to set up the camera, while the Nikons seem to work well for events and sports shooting.

I haven't had any previous experience with other Canon DSLRs, so I can't tell you much in terms of upgrading from a lesser model to this.

If you want to know more about the 5D2, ask Vudoo4u2. He would know more about it than I do. Think he's been a Canon guy from day one.

I hate the 50mm f/1.8 II. It's sick a cheap, cheap lens. If you want to rate a Canon Lens, grab an EF 50mm f/1.2L USM, or an EF 135mm f/2.8L USM. The quality/construction of the lens will blow you away. As will the images they take.

I've heard nothing but good from people with nikons. I've been thinking about making the switch but I've got too much invested in canon that I simply cannot. I agree the f/1.8 feels like a kids meal, I broke 2 of them and decided to get the f/1.4 and it is day and night with the two. If you want quality build lenses from canon you can't really skimp on money I've found.

I hope you enjoy the camera but if you don't and are going to sell it then give me shout.

Same! I don't know why I switched to Canon besides that they offered cheaper variations of different focal ranges unlike Nikon who only offer f/2.8 on their pro lenses, and cost a ton! If I could, I would switch back to Nikon but I haven't spent enough time with the Canon yet.

I think the only reason why Nikon draws me is because they offer cheaper Full Frame cameras. I like canons menu system and everything. Then again, I've never used a nikon.
