Seriously man. Let it go...

Everyone is aware how much you love your SE Tourer on 17" wheels and just how practical it is and how iDrive is a waste of time and offers nothing over a £150 TomTom.

We all know we wasted our money on M-Sport and "Fully Loaded" models...

No one fucking cares.

I'm just working out where that comes on my list of "best ever forum answers" - it's up there...

It had to be said.

I have nothing against 335diesel but every thread he starts is basically a justification for his purchasing decision and ultimately eluding to the fact that if anyone else chose differently they're an idiot or that it's a waste of money.

It gets really boring, really fast.

Can't win. Received the following PM.

I don't claim everyone with M Sport/whatever is an idiot - I make it clear I didn't want those options but many do yet get lambasted almost non stop for daring not to want those "essentials."

So when I defend my decisions, uppity members like you get all narky yet you seem to like nothing more than a snidey dig at me.

So what's it to be - do you not care? If so why do you bother sniping all the time? You can't have it both ways.

It just about sums up your average BMW owner - did they buy it because it drives well, has a lot of oomph, handles well etc or to pointlessly spec it up like an S Class Merc?

I'm beginning to think it's the latter.

Anyway I'm sure you'll print this PM and have another laugh while claiming "not to care."

Matt
For the record I've never said a thing against you or your car before my comment above. Who gives you flack about your choice of car? Can you give me one example of a comment that's been made against your car without you first provoking the situation?

I think the problem is quite the reverse of what you're claiming. You make digs ALL THE TIME about people having wheels larger than 17", or wanting iDrive, proclaiming the cubby-hole that exists if you don't have iDrive as the second coming and God forbid that someone buys an M-Sport.

We all know how practical your car is and how great it is to go surfing everyday and be as fit as a fiddle. How good the ride is in an SE on 17" wheels compared to my heap of shit E92 on 19" and RFT. We all know that if you had wanted you cuold easily have bought an M-Sport with iDrive and bigger wheels but you decided that it wasn't what you wanted.

Why go on and on about it? Are you trying to justify your purchase to yourself?

Why can't you just enjoy your car for what it is (and is not) and let others do the same. Go and enjoy a bit of quiet appreciation.

Indeed - I don't recall anyone criticising your [335diesel] car at all. It may have been said that iDrive is "essential" for resale value on a 335 but you've countered that by saying that does not matter to you as you plan to hang on to it, so that's fair enough - but it's not a criticism of your car.

On the other hand you've been plenty critical of others.

Mine, for example, sends you into apoplexy - an M-Sport with a four-pot engine and 19" wheels. Does what I need perfectly well. With what I've learned in ownership, and having previously had two six-pots, I probably would not choose a four-pot next time and I certainly wouldn't go for 19" wheels. Does that make it a bad car compared to yours or anyone elses? Nope.

Your own personal preferences and requirements are just that - personal - but there is no need to scoff at other peoples' purchases in which they may have made a significant investment.

But we've been here before, I believe.

xenon and toxic - two totally fair posts (compared to the previous ones) with good points in each.

BTW some 19s do look nice - no doubt about it. I don't scoff - there are some lovely cars owned here, from very nice looking 320ds to utterly stunning M3s. Some are not my cup of tea, a few I'd give up something important to own. You'll note (or not) that I often comment positively on four pot E9*s with some tasteful modding as well as other six and eight pot E9*s.

I also don't like football, new build estates, massive TVs, package holidays, chain restaurants, flashy watches and many other things but that doesn't mean I think anyone that chooses them is wrong in any way. We all have preferences - for some reason people on here take mine as some kind of affront if it doesn't comply with their own ideas.

So here ya go:

OPINION

–noun
1.
a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty
.
2.
a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.
3.
the formal expression of a professional judgment: to ask for a second Medical opinion.
4.
Law . the formal statement by a judge or court of the reasoning and the principles of law used in reaching a decision of a case.
5.
a judgment or estimate of a person or thing with respect to character, merit, etc.: to forfeit someone's good opinion.
6.
a favorable estimate; esteem: I haven't much of an opinion of him.

...anyway, one doing anything nice this weekend???

I'll start, meal tonight with friends, taking my little one swimming tomorrow (headache dependant), treating my inlaws to a meal on Sunday for their Ruby Wedding.

(note the very subtle change in direction of thread)

A week off here in Cornwall then a week off in (no laughing) Majorca where the outlaws currently have their boat moored up (but staying in an apartment nearby). Means babysitters on tap and some warm sea to swim in.

Anyway time to properly go. Good forecast in the UK for next week BTW.

Cheers all.

Bournemouth Air Show both days. Hoping that the rain stays away.

Planes are roaring away behind me but I'm "working"
