I have just bought an X5 and would claim it's fully loaded (thank you for your offer), but it isn't by some people's definition i.e it doesn't have a towbar etc.

It was meant to be humorous - clearly i omitted that optional extra in my make up
No you have fully loaded humour, was only a bit of multi-targetted banter! Still, no towbar, not sure if that counts or not..

Off-topic slightly, is it the facelift model? If so, how do you find it? Keep looking at X6s (yes I know...) but the X5 seems such better value....head v heart and all that.

I get it in October. So will be the LCI with 8 speed gearbox which is much much better than the 6speed in the 335d, there is no hesitation on kickdown for example.

I drove the X6 40d in my test drive and from the drivers seat the only difference was the flappy paddles on the steering wheel of the X6 40d (which is not available on the X5 for some reason). The big thing that put me off the X6, even though i don't have a family or significant other was the 2 seats in the back of the X6, and the limited load capacity for the size of car. Every once in a while i'll get mates in for a weekend jolly so it's good to have the space.

As for value. I don't think any car that price can be seen as good value. (Maybe the fast Datsun ) But I plan on keeping it a long while (at least 3 years), so am not that bothered. The only extra i wonder about is comfort access, but at £750 plus VAT i'm not that fussed about it. I didn't bother with the thing that reads road signs for speed or the side cameras either. But i ticked lots of boxes

Mister - my inlaws have an older shape X5 (3.0D Sport) and are considering either the X6 or X5 40d - be keen to hear your thoughts on it when you get it.

The X6 is form over function so you'll hate it

And my X5 40d will be an M-Sport, so you'll hate it too

But your inlaws will probably love it

X6 gets good reviews from "proper" car mags though so not all bad. M Sport is a bit silly on an X5 IMO but then it needs vast wheels to make it look "normal" - my inlaws 19s on theirs look pretty small. I like the seats though - that and the lowered suspension are the two M Sport extras I think are sensible - got the suspension, changing the seats would cost a zillion quid. The rest of the kit I have no time for ;-)

Steering wheel and gearstick?

Anthracite headlining?

You don't like these things?

No I don't - the steering wheel is too thick IMO (only fractionally thicker than mine too so a completely pointless "upgrade"), the gearstick looks naff and both look daft with M Sport labels. The black headlining makes a car gloomy - I prefer lighter coloured headlinings help lighten a car and make it feel airy - especially with a sunroof.

There are people around that don't automatically want £2-3ks worth of non performance enhancing cosmetics on their performance car.

Strange but true ;-)

I stand by my comments from ages ago, I reckon you'd really love an m-sport, but when you got yours there weren't any in your price range. I'd like an M sport, but didnt want to spend an extra £5k at the time.

pjs - so why, every time I looked and found countless M Sports, did I carry on searching for SEs?

I know it might not compute but I don't LIKE M Sport stuff - same with S-Line kit on Audis. It's pretend M3 stuff. It doesn't enhance performance. It makes the car look too OTT. My main search was for an SE E91 330d or 335d - I found almost the exact spec I wanted (no i-drive, SE, leather and most importantly, a sunroof) after a long search and so went for it, chuffed to bits to have found what I thought was impossible to find.

Why spend more money on something you don't want? I know "we" are rare but there are many around that find M Sported BMs a bit "try hard" a bit naff even. Same with Audis - I much prefer proper engined non S-Line Audis to the ten a penny S-Lined up 2.0TDIs trying to look like RS4s.

So pjs, I know you like a rise out of me but please don't take that utterly patronising and irritating line - my "budget" depended on the car and whether it was the right spec and good VFM. The search included RS4 Avants, 535d Tourings and a few lesser engined cars.

I don't WANT an M Sport so I don't have one. I'm happy with that. Sorry if you don't understand it.

So it's too thick, yet simultaneously not thick enough to be worth it as an upgrade?

Weird.

Like a penis enlargement really then.

Before you get it, chicks are like 'sure I can take some more girth' then you have it done and they are more 'uuunnh, maybe not' but you're like 'too late babe!'
