Need a Body Shop Recommendation in Austin
Well, I'm debating on getting a custom license plate for my e92 that says something to the tune of "BADLUCK."
I've owned my car for a little over two months and so far it’s been a magnet for people messing with me. Had a few other incidents with assholes f***ing with me and then today this happened: Can’t really tell, but the bumper and part of the rear quart panel is dented pretty good: Does anyone have any recommendations for a good body shop in Austin? I live downtown so preferably something in the central Austin area. I’m willing to drive a bit if it’s worth the trouble, but I don’t want it fixed half assed. Hopefully, my insurance company goes to bat for me and I don’t get screwed. The lady had the nerve to think it was my fault, and then eventually said something to the tune of “It’s not that bad, could we just drop it at this point?” |

Best body shop for high-end cars in the Austin area is Berli's in Pflugerville. Their work is impeccable, but they cost more than most shops.
Since Penske now owns the Round Rock Auto Center and all its associated dealerships, Round Rock Collision Center on Mays Street just north of Old Settler's Blvd. is the preferred body shop for BMW of Austin (also owned by Penske). I had some paintwork done there for my E92 and it was expertly done at a reasonable cost.

Ha, Continental is a joke. They couldn't match the paint on my 2000 Honda Prelude (Crystal Blue Metallic) after two attempts. It was pretty pathetic to paint/blend around my rear qtr panel and passenger side door. It was like I was driving a salvaged title car. AVOID if possible! Berli's I heard and seen great results myself.

I have an appointment for an estimate with Berli's tomorrow. I'll probably submit that and see if they cover it. If not, I'll be going with Round Rock body as the next alternative.

Round Rock collision center will do good work for you - last I knew, they had two BMW-certified painters/bodywork specialists on staff.

^ Listen to roundel335. Berli's has done great work for me on two occasions, once on the dealer's dime to fix a minor paint blemish on the roof that was there from the factory (and which I'd never have noticed if my SA hadn't called it out, in fact I was amazed they noticed it during their own inspection) and a second time when I scraped my rear bumper with only 800 miles on the car. Both jobs were done flawlessly. With a previous car I used Ellis & Salazar to replace and paint a front bumper after a minor accident. They have locations in both North and South Austin and I was happy with their work as well.

^John is correct - Berli's is THE place, but sometimes insurance won't cover their additional cost. I had an OEM Aero front lip for my 2007 E92 painted and installed at RRCC, and they matched things perfectly, as did Berli's on the rear trunklid lip on the same car.
Little known fact: your bumper covers are a slightly different shade than the rest of your car, as they're painted and installed in a different shop from the main body panels. The guy at RRCC used "sprayout" sheets with maybe 12 different shades of Sparkling Graphite to match perfectly to the bumper panel, but it was just slightly different from the hood and front fender. Any body shop that will take your car out in the sunlight and do a sprayout match like that is one you want to go to for sure!

Berli's is absolutely the only shop in town for your sport car! I've used this shop for several cars over the years and it's always first class!

Berli's. Nothing but high end there. Nice people too.
