IIRC there's two torx screws that hold the trim on. You don't have to remove the steering wheel.

Here's a crappy picture of the X1 trim on my stock (and very worn) sport wheel.

I'll take a look around the wheel for them but somehow I think they're on the back part of the steering wheel, which would suck in any case
