335i Manual Other Oil Changes Apart from Engine One?

Was wondering I have a 4 year old 335i petrol manual coupe BMW which has had the following engines oil changes:-

1. Around 19K miles (approx. 1 yr 9 months old)

2. Around 29K miles (approx. 3 yrs 9 months old)

But what other oil changes would people recommend please?

I have had a quick search and I think:-

3. The back differential oil needs changing, what is the either the time or mileage frequency that is recommened please?

Also what type of oil is needed for a 335i?

Is this oil change listed in the service book for a garage to stamp it, I cant seem to see any mention of it?

4. Do people recommend changing the gearbox oil on a manual car? Again what is the either the time or mileage frequency that is recommened please?

Although I have read some say that only change it if the gearbox is sticking abit?

Any other oil that needs changing in the car.

Thanks in advance.

Yes I would support changing all the fluids at appropriate intervals (please ignore BMW's 'lifetime fill' nonsense).

Mike Miller suggests:

1. Engine oil - no more than 10K
2. Manual transmission - every 30K (75W-80)
3. Differential fluid - every 30K (75W-90).

And don't forget brake fluid every 2 years...and coolant of course.

If you're not intending to do these yourself, I suggest you go to a reputable independent, as a BMW dealer will either (a) refuse to do it or (b) tell you it's all totally unnecessary as lubricants are filled for life (which is why they're not in the service schedule). And they'll also tell you you're changing the engine oil too frequently.

Any info for a auto gear box? I also looked in my service schedule for my 335i and was shocked that BMW dont have this in the maintenance requirements.
Most other manufacturers require oil change at 40000 (Mercedes).

Yeah it's another thing coverd by BMW's 'lifetime fill' nonsense. Not a job for the faint-hearted and not one to attempt without a ramp I think...

It is amazing how if you just follow the 'recommended' service intervals you can go without even a basic engine oil change for nearly 2 years.

My auto box has recently developed a leak around the O ring (another well known 'issue' with BMWs), its with the garage now having a new sump, O ring, and gear box oil. Quite pricey but given the car is now just coming up to 50,000 its a job that I planned on getting done anyways.

Interesting to see for 2014 cars BMW have gone back to the more tradition 10,000 mile or every 12 months oil change interval, just what difference exists between pre 2014 cars and post 2014 cars to justify the change in servicing schedule I'm not sure

For sure it's a job for the mechanic. Jut a couple of things that Iam worried about, I defiantly want to have this done as my cars at 80k. What type of oil? And the amount of oil? Of course we can measure the amount that comes out, or just fill it to the max! But I'm sure none of us want to cause any damage by just guessing oil types or amounts. It would be good if bm offered some advice. How about if you had a new gear box fitted? Would they have to fill the oil? Or does it come pre-filled at factory?

I think they will keep this the same. It's got to be a money thing. Get you in for each part of service separately instead if just once a year for all work needed!

Suggest you go to a reputable independent BMW specialist. A good one will use pukka BMW-approved lubricants and parts...but labour rates will be well below BMW stealers.

You need 7 litres of ZF Lifeguard oil. It's about £25 (ish) a litre from most dealers. Don't be tempted to use normal ATF - the electronics in the gearbox will not take kindly to normal ATF. The ZF stuff is non-conductive.
