Logic Sound system

How do you guys set up the equalizer? What is the best way to set it up? For some reasons, I think that the sound system in my Benz is much richer than the BMW. Did I do something wrong?

I have had high-end aftermarket stereo's in all of my previous cars and I must admit that I think the Logic 7 sounds GREAT, especially for a factory system.

With that being said, I have already began buying components for a new stereo. But I am very content with the Logic 7 for the time being.

I suggest adjusting your factory EQ properly before bashing the Logic 7, it makes a world of difference.

Shouldn't the "proper EQ setting" for a factory system be FLAT?

And the you use the EQ to adjust for recordings?

Sounds like you need to force it to me...

No, you agree, you just misunderstand

I was not referring to acoustic response being flat. I was referring to the control settings being flat.

The system is pre-tuned from the factory, right? It has the technical capability to boost, cut, highpass, lowpass, even phase/group/time delay any way you want PRIOR to the EQ controls being applied, because the designer had the envied opportunity to design the system knowing exactly where every speaker would be, exactly what the internal acoustics are, etc. etc. -AND he had a DSP front end to his multi-channel amp.

So the EQ CONTROLS should be set to flat - dead center - and the ACOUSTIC OUTPUT should already be appropriate for the car - and then the controls can be moved off center song by song and recording by recording.

Since apparently the above is not the case, the designer came up short.

... all of which the factory DSP setup should be compensating for on its own without any user involvement. Just because the EQ sliders you see are flat doesn't mean that the system's actually flat. One of the few expectations i have of a stock stereo is that it be tuned for the drivers and acoustics of the vehicle for which it was designed.

There is a right answer which is what tinitivilus and VP said, but considering that BMW didn't do their work right (which I think most audio geeks will agree on here), you have to compensate using the eq adjustments. Some tune it to what they like, I have seen another try ('try' LOL) to tune the stock L7 with an RTA.

Since it should be acoustically flat (but isn't) you could try to get it flat with an rta, or just do it what most people on this forum do, which is tune to your liking. Or you could just upgrade the speakers, amp etc and then after about $1500 -$3000 you may get the system you thought you paid for in the first place.

Sorry to say, but I am an L7 hater. I have heard two sound systems that I thought were worth paying for the 'premium' - The recent Volvo (I think designed or made by Dynaudio but I could be wrong) and Lexus's Levinson. This is not to say that they are fantastic, just that they were good enough for me to not want to swap everything out.

So yeah, the sound is lifeless or not 'rich' because the system was not set up correctly to get the true FLAT FR and so you the consumer is left to either A. Fix it or B. tune using the whopping 10 band eq.

Oh yeah, and the other fun part is when you start turning it up nice and loud with the windows down on PCH, somewhere along the way it will start to distort.

Sorry, a good friend of mine and I drove HER car this weekend (and of course it had L7). Eventually I just turned the volume down till it was background noise.
