What does speed have to do with the water pump? It turns on based on heat.

IF the water pump has died (which it sounds like), the car will not be able to cool the coolant & thus the engine will overheat. This can happen at any time & any speed.

While this is no where near as common as the HPFP/LPFP issue, the water pump seems to be another "faulty" part on this platform.

I was thinking that the thermostat was the issue cuz my engine was still cold and I was on the street for only like 10 min

Sup Kush! well take out any tune you have, but i dont see how a FMIC could affect the waterpump/thermostat. Intercooler should make your car run cooler. i dont think it can increase stress of the engine. you can check for codes if its your waterpump. im pretty sure its your waterpump, when you change your waterpump you still need to change your thermostat.

Very common job and most do it quick so they might not even say anything. I dont think you have much a choice seeing that taking off your intercooler is a PITA.

Do you have extended warranty or warranty? if so your covered. You can call Bmw roadside to check with them and see if your covered. Just becareful on the towing company. watch them put your car on the truck. One guy scraped my bumper bad going up his tow truck!

even if they dont, you should have AAA just because they are the cheapest solution to towing, needing a jump etc.... worth the money...
