Internet broker discount vs Dealer discount
Thanks to everyone that replied to my first post, I need to check out the Nav Pro in depth to be sure. I have another question with regards to internet broker discounts and dealer discounts.
I am very close to placing an order and as such I looked up the price of my chosen car on Coast2Coast to give me a guide when negotiating. They are quoting a 13.5ish% discount. The dealer I am talking to has just sent me the following email and I quote; 'Please find attached our quotation for the supply of the car specified below. We get 8% discount from BMW as a dealer and this is the maximum we are allowed to give. Prior to January 2007 we may have been able to allow a little more and if we achieved our targets with BMW annually we would be paid a bonus. In January 2007 that has changed completely and they will only allow a maximum of 8% discount. We are always amazed at the internet pricing and do not know, with the new rules, how they manage to offer such a huge discount (approximately 13.5%).' Is this true or is it the usual dealer spiel? If this is true, how do the internet brokers get such a good deal and are there any catches? Thanks again Ian |

The internet broker finds a dealer who needs the sales to get him up to his dealer bonus and the extra discount will be taken from the dealer bonus payments.

My dealer gave me something between 11 and 13% on e90 (depending on how you calculate it!). They said that this was all of their "front end" and "back end" margin. I believe front end is the 8% you refer to. I suspect that some dealers then get given an additional say 3-5% at the end of a period if they make their targets. That is why I think it is good to order near the end of a period. It may be that the dealers the brokers go to know that they are comfortably within their targets so can afford to do this, however why would they make zero margin?
Something doesn't stack up.

Try Broadspeed, they will put you in touch with a BMW Cooper dealer.
Maybe the same as C2C, but worth a try.

Also tout round a few dealers, no harm in doing that. Surely the cooper dealers if you went direct would offer similar discount?

Thanks guys, I didn't realise that Broadspeed used Cooper's. I have 2 Cooper dealerships in my area, Colchester and Chelmsford so I might try going direct to them and see if they'll do a deal.

Go to Broadspeed, spec the car you want, print off that quote then go to dealer. Thats what I did and got about £4000 off. If that does not work then just use Broadspeed and let them have the dealer cntact you - will probably take a bit longer but you will still get the same discount. Good luck

Quick update, I told the dealer that I could get a better discount than his 8% via the web and left it at that, I got no reply to that email. Then, just before I left work the dealer emailed to say that he had spoken to his manager and as a one off blah, blah, blah they would increase their discount to 10%.
Funny what going quiet after stating your position does to the discount! Now, I wonder how much further they'll go!? |

i took a copy of the coast2coast quote and broadspeed as well as drive the deal and asked the dealer to match the lowest quote. He did and i got 11 per cent off a E92 msport. However, long waiting time as they dont want to give you quick release allocation.

I would try the Coopers dealers, they are owned by Inchcape which is also a major stakeholder in Broadspeed.com. Coopers have to cut the internet portal in on the deal so in theory if you go direct they can do you a better deal. The broadspeed team will usually refer you to Coopers Thames Ditton. I got a quote from them direct for my wifes e92 which was much better than the broadspeed site. My local dealer Sytners HW happily matched Coopers.
Picked up the e92 last Tuesday just waiting for my new 535dse now. Good luck SPE |

Cheers SPE. You say your local dealer is Sytner HW is that Harold Wood? If so, that's the dealer that only offered me 8% to start and is now at 10%. I have contacted Broadspeed this morning and will see what they can do. I will then go back to Sytner and see if they can match the price that Broadspeed offer me.
Thanks v much |

That's pretty good, but when your paying for Individual I'd hope they'd have a bit of room for manouvre !!!!

Have just got off the phone to Chandlers in Worthing and got 13.4% discount on a 320d M Sport Touring for my wife. (basically the coast2coastcars price minus the £350 admin fee)
May as well cut out the middleman whenever possible

If anyone's interested check out http://www.bmw.com/com/en/index_high...visualizer.xml. Same colours I ordered, but E91 rather than E90. I'm gonna need some shades when this puppy arrives...

Popped into Lind (Coopers) in Colchester and they will match the Broadspeed price with no quibbles, result!
Now to see if Sytner will match that as they have a car for June delivery and Lind can only do September. Thanks all. |
