Underseat Sub Upgrade help
Hello,
I have the Top Hi-Fi, Logic 7 setup (I think, according to the wiring diagrams I found on e90post). I was wondering if anybody has done the under-seat sub upgrade and would be willing to help me with just the wiring. I can install the subs and run the wires myself, basically I’m just nervous about cutting into the factory amp wires. If someone can help me out with picking out an amp and connecting it, that’d be great. I live in Bellingham but I wouldn’t mind driving to meet you. Thanks in advance. |

Regarding the amp, pick yourself up a used JL Audio 500/1. It's a fantastic mono amp that you can get for around $200 off of Craigslist. The issue that I ran in to with my first attempt using the upgraded Earthquakes was that the amp I was using kept clipping and blew both speakers. Up 'til that point, it sounded GREAT though - the amp just couldn't seem to keep up and it fried them. That said, get a good amp! By the way, I'm now running a JL Audio 10W7 in a ported box with a 500/1 and it sounds incredible combined with the factory subs. A good friend of mine used partake in car audio competitions and he really enjoys putting together "budget" systems (not to be confused with "cheap"). After listening to my setup, he said it's one of the best he's ever heard (I spent <$700 total).

I did the SWS-8 upgrades underneath my seats but without an external amp - I'm just using the factory amp and it bumps just fine for me. Definitely a significant improvement over stock Logic7.
Have you already looked at this DIY Thread? If you come by the BBQ meet this Saturday, you can check out my sub install if that helps.. |
