High Intensity battery discharge warning
So in the past month twice I have gotten the warning for the battery. the car is 5 yrs old so I'm assuming that it is just time for a new battery... Called the dealer and they said a battery for my 335 was around $299 plus programming?? I have never heard of needed a battery to be programmed is this true? Can I just take my car to a battery store and get a new one or do I need to get to the dealer purchase one from them and pay to have them install it..... I'm not really trying to spend $500

Yes, the car needs to programmed to adapt to a new battery for maximum performance. If you don't, best case you will not get the longest life out of it. Worst case it may catastrophically fail.

interstate mtp49/h8 around 200 buck there are cheaper substitutes. Either group 49 or 94 r (match the amp hours .) Some independents will do it for between 200 and 300. battery + registration that is. |

What dealer quoted you this price? Look at dealer websites for promotions. A lot have very good coupons and discounts on batteries and maintenance items. I too will soon have to replace my battery and will use a dealer to do it, but will NOT pay $500.

Lots of good info there ^
And a reminder how complex all the variables on these cars can be. I have not had to change a battery yet, but when the time comes it will be a good reason to buy a BT tool or similar. |

I get this warning all the time...luckily nothing has progressed, but I am still under the BMW maintenance program so I believe they replace it for free. There must be a cheaper alternative in your case.
