BBS announces insolvency

Scold oh. The autosupplier BBS automotive technology AG in scold oh (circle Rottweil), one of the prominent manufacturers of light alloy wheels, placed insolvency request. As reason for the inability to pay the enterprise indicated the way breaking of a bank on Tuesday. A catching solution failed. The technology leader with high-quality light alloy wheels had still briefly before communicated the change at the point of the supervisory board. The former minister of economics of Baden-Wuerttemberg Walter Döring should replace Hans Peter Hirner (71).

BBS had communicated in August 2006 that the enterprise had to accept a result depression because of aluminum prices snapped the strongly up. The additional tax result sagged in the first half-year on minus 3.8 million euro. For the whole year 2006 BBS had expected a conversion of 200 million euro. The conversion of the yearly 2005 was with 189.8 million euro. BBS employs approximately 1200 humans in the company.

“Although to the time of the filing of an application still promising negotiations were led to the re-establishment of the solvency of the enterprise, were the reason for the filing of an application that the society was come into serious liquidity difficulties and the end of the request period stood, was called after Paragraf 92 of the law on limited companies before the expiration” it in the report of BBS.

A solution for the re-establishment of the solvency appeared last, which should be carried by the big customers of the enterprise. The promise of the big customers to make the necessary liquidity available by larger Vorfälligkeitszahlungen it was also given. The conversion of the concept failed however at the night to Tuesday because of the resistance of one of the banks involved, although the society granted for the purpose of the continuation of the financing collateral to the financing banks. A catching solution under excluding the bank concerned did not come therefore no more to conditions. (German Press Agency/in accordance with)

The same can be said about a discontinued wheel, right? Even though if the Brand is still making new wheels, but discontinues the one you have, you are out of luck.

I placed my order for a set of 19" RS-GT in Nov 2006. The dealer say it will be here in 2 months.....now they still cannot confirm me a date on the shipment.

Maybe this is why!

Bummer, they are such a long standing company with a great heritage. Maybe someone will buy them to capitalize on the branding. Their quality really can't be beat. I found this from the PDF above to be funny: "BBS employs approximately 1200 humans in the company." They should give equal billing to the robots as well.

We heard news of BBS AG (Germany) filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. We talked to BBS America and they expect more official information today.

It should be noted that this is not a closing or going out of business type of bankruptcy but instead a restructuring. Also BBS America is a Delaware Corp. and is funded by US banks. In addition BBS Japan is a completely separate company that simply produces BBS wheels by license.

I believe some of their sportier rims are BBS made (162's, ZCP's)

Im sure BMW will get by, but that will be something that BMW will have to make some rather serious adjustments.

Do you think its a possibility that someone might come in with the right amount of cash to get BBS back on their feet???

I'm sure this is partly the reason why the company is "restructuring" or going bankcrupt, because prices are so high and competitions are getting better and cheaper. I honestly like DPE better than BBS.

Sheeesh

BBS is dissolving (Chapter 7) because one of their banks pulled the plug after BBS posted losses on higher alu and other metals prices .

That company was litterally based one stone throw away from where I used to live in Germany - long standing employer and I always loved their wheels.

Can't get over this - someone should buy their IP (name and wheel design pattents) from the insolvency and start over.

that is true, but if you think about it BBS is more than DPE. BBS make massive production wheels. DPE make them per order. BBS limited to offset, colors and size. DPE is you get it your way.

Good for you, but know that BBS wheels, especially their forged series are much higher quality then DPE/HRE...etc. Coming from Japan, they're more in line with Volks/Works with much tighter tolerance and QC then DPE/HRE which outsource the forging to third party forge-press overseas. IMHO, DPE is not as bad price wise, but HRE are downright ridiculous for their wheels which essentially is no different then iforged/Jline/DPE in quality, then again I guess they have the ability to charge that much since the name represent more then just the wheels (Perfect example...ghetto spinners like Niche, Giovanni wheels or DUB)

I'm not too worried. Somebody's always looking for a good investment opportunity; someone's going to buy-in and restructure the company for profit. Little chance that a company with that kind of brand recognition won't get picked up.

Doesn't mean it'll be the same company or the same quality of product, but the name will be there.
