Wow....this is hard to believe I hope someone will take over and save the brand. Anyone know what's happeneing with BBS Japan? (Hopefully LM-R will still be available when I have enough money for them. )

The same can be said about a discontinued wheel, right? Even though if the Brand is still making new wheels, but discontinues the one you have, you are out of luck.

OH NO!!!
I placed my order for a set of 19" RS-GT in Nov 2006. The dealer say it will be here in 2 months.....now they still cannot confirm me a date on the shipment. Maybe this is why! |

Bummer, they are such a long standing company with a great heritage. Maybe someone will buy them to capitalize on the branding. Their quality really can't be beat. I found this from the PDF above to be funny: "BBS employs approximately 1200 humans in the company." They should give equal billing to the robots as well.

We heard news of BBS AG (Germany) filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. We talked to BBS America and they expect more official information today.
It should be noted that this is not a closing or going out of business type of bankruptcy but instead a restructuring. Also BBS America is a Delaware Corp. and is funded by US banks. In addition BBS Japan is a completely separate company that simply produces BBS wheels by license.

Im sure BMW will get by, but that will be something that BMW will have to make some rather serious adjustments. Do you think its a possibility that someone might come in with the right amount of cash to get BBS back on their feet??? |

I'm sure this is partly the reason why the company is "restructuring" or going bankcrupt, because prices are so high and competitions are getting better and cheaper. I honestly like DPE better than BBS.

BBS is dissolving (Chapter 7) because one of their banks pulled the plug after BBS posted losses on higher alu and other metals prices . That company was litterally based one stone throw away from where I used to live in Germany - long standing employer and I always loved their wheels. Can't get over this - someone should buy their IP (name and wheel design pattents) from the insolvency and start over.

Good for you, but know that BBS wheels, especially their forged series are much higher quality then DPE/HRE...etc. Coming from Japan, they're more in line with Volks/Works with much tighter tolerance and QC then DPE/HRE which outsource the forging to third party forge-press overseas. IMHO, DPE is not as bad price wise, but HRE are downright ridiculous for their wheels which essentially is no different then iforged/Jline/DPE in quality, then again I guess they have the ability to charge that much since the name represent more then just the wheels (Perfect example...ghetto spinners like Niche, Giovanni wheels or DUB)

I'm not too worried. Somebody's always looking for a good investment opportunity; someone's going to buy-in and restructure the company for profit. Little chance that a company with that kind of brand recognition won't get picked up.
Doesn't mean it'll be the same company or the same quality of product, but the name will be there. |
