Akrapovic Downpipes-Do they fit RHD?
Well that is the question i have been asking myself ever since i heard that Akrapovic were building downpipes as part of the 1M exhaust upgrades. When i was able to, i placed an order for the full business but delays meant the downpipes were shipped after the evolution system i recently installed on a 1M.
So to mix it up a bit i installed them on a 135i E82 as they are a more readily available to me than the 1M's are at this point. Well the build quality is outstanding as i have come to expect from Akrapovic. The fixtures and fittings as perfectly located for RHD and the install was the easiest i have ever done. The downpipes have the factory bracket at the rear (of the downpipes) so this allows for perfect alignment of the front pipes that bolt up to the downpipes. This takes a lot of the time out of the install and you don't have to worry about the alignment of the primary pipes. This car has a BMW Performance rear muffler with resonator delete pipe, i took some quicky video that i'll post up soon. |

I'm only 2yrs new into this game of performance cars modifications, so I don't have much (well nothing) to go off, but these Akrapovic DP's are absolutely amazing.
Where to begin, the sound is intoxicating, what the BMW Perf Exhaust achieves over the standard 135i exhaust is pretty special but with the addition of the Akrapovic DP's it simply has to be said "light years" ahead in sound and quality. On initial start up the sound is very loud but such a solid seductive sound and after 8-10secs the idle is just sublime, something of a rally car engine at idle. There is drone at cruising speed but it's so verbal that it isn't painful to the ears. The sound is rotating through several seductive "Barry White" notes. For the gains the DP's offer and from such a quality company, these Akrapovic DP's are worth every penny. I'm so glad I dragged my feet on the AR Design DP's as I can't see them being any better or even as good. (fire away you AR Design nuts). Next mod I guess will be to rid myself of RFT, finally. |

Andrew - Is $980 a supply price locally or does shipping costs need to be added?
How much would these cost fully installed?

dtn: i assume locally supplied considering they're USD $799 + shipping at the moment. Good effort by Andrew to keep the prices on par, if i've assumed correctly.
ps: Andrew, has Akra not advised of any Australasian price changes? IND has stated they'll be charging $1650 as of 1/1/12 due to Akra 2012 North America pricing guide. I'm tempted to buy one right now. |

$980 is the local price inc gst. We get from Slovenia to us. Currently pricing is not going to change at all on dp's, 1M exhaust and M3 exhaust. Install is $330 from me on dp's. I'm a bit worried everyone else is saying that the price is rising so i asked and they tell me that they will stay the same for me. So we will see as my ordering continues next year i suppose.
