The exhausts on my xfr aren't in bad shape but show signs of previous cleans.

They are a bit scratched and I can see why. There are small solid lumps of carbon deposits dotted over the outside.

The rim and inner is ok but some small dullness and blackening.

What would you recommend to remove the carbon lumps minimising scratching, anything to break it down so I don't have to rub much but won't damage or discolour the exhaust tips.

Then also a decent polish that you could recommend that will polish out the slight scratches?

Autosol or Gtechnic M1 and some 0000 wire wool first.

Or even better get a switchable performance exhaust. I expect a 5.0 sc v8 to sound epic with a decent exhaust..

The tips being dirty are just the excuse you need!!

I use Autosol.
Does a great job of removing the black spots and should be kind on the finish if you use a microfiber cloth and a load of elbow grease.

I forgot to say this is a custom exhaust and it sounds brutal so want to keep it in good condition

I didn't think you could use wire wool without potentially scratching too. I will take a look at the autosol stuff, I assume it can be used on alloys too for stubborn stains?

I've been looking for an opportunity to record. My neighbour is a bit funny... he complained about a builders radio once and he's a mard arse... so to keep the piece i will need to look for a suitable opportunity.

I've only had the thing 3 days and already i've noticed at least 2 people purposely wind down the window to listen. I can even hear it pop and bang off throttle just cruising at 20mph back to my house. Must be pretty loud from the back.

I always use Autosol, I always used it for polishing up the bumpers etc of my old mini, it's good stuff. Just apply a decent wax after to protect it a bit more.

BTW, I would defo be one of those people who would wind down the window to hear your car, it's something I always do, the wife thinks I'm sad but the noise from a V8 is always a pleasure, especially an SC V8. Sod the mardy neighbour and get the vid up

Thinking about it I opened the door in anticipation after spotting an rs6 whilst the mrs was filling up the car earlier today. I was rewarded as he absolutely nailed it down the adjacent dual carriageway. Brave man 4wd or not 560bhp unleashed in the rain. I'm 99% sure the xfr would end up in the wall!
