Why do Prius drivers speed?

I had one fly by me in the rain today...doesn't that defeat the "purpose" of their cars?

That's one thing I love about Prius drivers. I think it's because they think they're saving the environment so they're better than all the rest of us. (this is also why most pedal-bike riders are also jerks) Of course, they don't realize that when they're doing 80 down the freeway their car is just as inefficient and pollution-prone as any other car.

I wonder if they ever noticed that they get crappy gas mileage on the freeway. Yeah, Priusii get 50bajillion MPG in the city, but the second you take it on the freeway it drops to like 20mpg. What a great commuter car!

I love flying by them at warp speed. Usually, around here, they're doing 5 under in the middle lane. I hope my air wake makes their chasis roll...

I like the Prius drivers that don't like to be passed and make a meager attempt to stave off the inevitable. Honestly, why bother? You want to save fuel, you may as well go way out and never go above the posted speed limit, never mind trying avoid getting passed.

Hey guys. My other ride is a Prius. It's a great car. No, I don't speed. And NO, I don't drive under the speed limit. I just drive as if I was in a "normal" car. I average about 50mpg. I use to not be a fan of the Prius, until my sister got one. I bought one the following day as my commuter/work ride.

That's actually not true. I average about 40 mpg on the freeway doing about 70mph.

and the cool thing is that there is a mpg gauge so when you are driving and you are not getting great milage you can ease off a little and play with it and it shows when it gets better. if you use that gauge you can get great milage.

dont get me wrong 40 is by no means bad, but i would think it would be higher? i'm guessing if you consistently go 55mph you could get 60mpg but who goes 55.

honestly is it worth it? i hear 335's and 328's get around 30mpg doing 70 on the highway.

yep, I do like the car. I use to think they were before I bought one. It's not my daily driver... My "other ride" was an 05 Range Rover. So the gas savings is huge compared to that!

I seriously doubt that the average prius averages a higher freeway speed than gasoline-engine car and in any case, they are certainly averaging significantly better mileage which is great for all of us.

Too bad we can't get plug-in hybrids that have the handling characteristics of a bmw. I need a more practical version and lower cost version of the Tesla.

Well, I'm sure Prius drivers don't get their cars just to go slow.

hybrids are only a temporary fix to slow the bleeding.

It by no means is solving the issue of us running out of natural resources.

Have you guys seen the smug episode of south park about the prius. It was hilarious!!

All of the Prius owners like the smell of their own farts throughout the show and do exactly that..
