DCI's
Hey everyone,
I know there is probably alot of threads about DCI's but heres my issue. I want to get a set but im worried that they suck in too much hot air which puts extra stress on the turbos, which i obviously dont want. so is it worth getting DCI's? Also, what are my other options for intakes without spending a ton of money. I know Injen makes a good one but i dont want to spend almost $500. So what are my other options? Thanks guys

If your signature is correct and all you have is a little exhaust work then you won't get any benefit from running any intake systems. Get a Tune/Tuner and go from there.

Knowing what I know now, I'd do a LSD upgrade before anything else. With just a flash I barely can keep my rear wheels on the road. We seem to forget these cars are relative rockets right from the factory. And if you don't believe me try driving around without any traction control on!

I just took off my DCI and put my stock intake back on if that's an consolation. DCI really only seems good if you mod more then just the intake and tune.

The truth is if your car is stock otherwise there is no benefit. You will see a better result with just a drop in filter. If you do have a tune it is best to get rid of the stock intake as it is a bottle neck, imagine trying to breathe through a straw. In the quest for a happy medium there are other intakes to choose from. I'm not allowed to post links here but we carry a lot of intakes. The most popular one we sell today is the :aFe Power MagnumFORCE Stage-2 Si PRO 5R Intake Systems; BMW 135i (E82/88) / 535i (E60) 08-10 L6-3.0L (tt) N54 54-82002 I'll shoot you a PM with some more details. |

Try a Mr.5 style intake if you really want a CAI and want to save $$. Once you start going FBO you might want to invest in a better intake. But like everyone will tell you, depends what you goals are and what your budget is like. |

Stock Box for anyone that's running just a tune.
DCIs are the best value intake once you start heavily modding (FMIC/DPs, etc) Last edited by benzy89; 08-06-2012 at 11:19 PM.. |

actually hotrod182 did some testings & DCI & drop in filters had no affect on the car. He claimed that in some instances it hurt his car. He noticed that DCI made a difference at speeds past 110mph. If you have meth then that greatly helps with the DCI. The stock air box & filters work fine if your running just a tune, the engineers at BMW know what they are doing otherwise they wouldve made our cars with a oem dci system, just throwing in my two cents

Yawn. Turbos produce hot air. Your whole idea of hot air in the engine bay is irrelevant.
Get the cones. It's a performance mod and stupid not to get them for 89$. Anyone tells you to keep the stock box is just being ignorant. |

The dci will heatsoak on a hot day. Any intake will. When its really hot outside, Do you really want to be pushing a high temp turbo car anyway? With higher boost levels, the turbos produce less heat sucking in hotter air vs producing more heat sucking in cooler air with the stock restrictive box.

Here's the study that Terry did, it was reposted on here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=588242 Results showed that a DCI outperformed a modified Stock Airbox & wasn't as susceptible to heatsoak as everyone makes it sound |

DCI for the track. DCI for the sound. DCI for the look of a modified engine bay. Pick up a used AFE stage 2. They can be had at like 150$-200 and they look great, they sound great and they ram cold air if you think it will help. At trap speeds a BMS or CPE will give you an edge. ETS has an interesting set up now too, largest cones Ive seen. I have Injen I picked up used for $250 and the torque is amazing. From like 30-90mph I feel the difference. It feels better than just a DCI. It too has a snorkel ramming cold air to one cone. Lots of options... good news is, everyone wants to try something else so alot of these intakes can be found for 1/2 price used on this fourm. Why not try a few and tell us what you think??? Everyone else does.

This is why i brought up the question because everyone has different opinions on intakes so im not sure what i want to do. For now im probably keeping the stock one until i get a tune. But thanks to everyone for their input it helped alot
