E61 questions.
What's up guys
I haven't logged for a while but I'm back with some questions. Made a post in the 5-er section but it's dead there. In fact it looks like a for sale board in the general discussion section so I'll try my luck here. Yes I know its mis categorized but I hope that someone here has some expertise... I'm a current e90 n54 owner looking to expand my fleet (rather wife's new to her) to an e61. Over the weekend I plan to look an e61. It's a 530xi with an n52 engine. It has approximately 120,000 miles. The owner seems to have a bit of receipts, most of which are just regular oil changes but from the conversations I gathered that in the last two years he replaced a thermostat, stater, some radiator hoses and a belt tensioner. Of course some usual wear and tear like battery, tires, brakes, etc... He claims the car is good shape and never been in an accident. He is either a second or third owner. I'll check the accident history, etc via a carfax as well if I like it enough Please let me know what to look. What to avoid. Red flags. Etc. Thanks!!

Check the trunk/spare tire well for water. I remember reading about the E61's I believe, where there was a potential for the sunroof drains to clog, and then water ends up under the spare tire, where all the electronics are located. Remove the spare tire, then remove the plate under it. The electronics will be under that...
Nice cars though. I believe all E61's sold in the U.S. ARE Xi's, correct? Good luck |

Check for working radio and remotes, broken tailgate wires are common on E61 and E91. I had to fix them on my E91

Ok thanks guys.
Everything I've read about the n52 makes it seem like a solid engine. Well. Minus the lifters noise, water pump issues/tstat standard stuff.. Is the the auto(tragic) on those cars any good?
