New Addition to the Family

Guys and girls, been a tough few weeks, but I can now finally share the great news that on 4th November, the wife and I had our 3rd child, a baby boy who arrived 7 weeks early!

It was a difficult few weeks since the wife had her waters break at around 8 weeks, for no apparent reason. We went into hospital, and it dawned on us the seriousness of an early birth given that development of the lungs is the last thing a child normally does, and that would not complete for around 3 more weeks. We ended up being moved hospitals as the neonatal centre at our chosen hospital was full - and we were lucky to get another hospital in our city, as some people have to move to where ever that is space and we had Liverpool mentioned a few times to us.

Cutting a long story short and saving the details, he was born on 4th November, and weighed in at 4lb 3oz. He was 7 weeks early, but did very well and only required minimal support. At birth, and before, we did not know how much he would need - it could have been his heart, lungs and other organs would struggle. As it turned out, our main issue was to regulate his temperature as they have virtually no body fat when they are pre-term. We spent 2 weeks in neonatal intensive care with them doing an amazing job of helping him fight his was out of the incubator and eventually into a cot. He is now home, and is doing great, as is his mother who I must say had been amazing throughout.

His two older brothers love him to bits, and we are thankful for the NHS services that supported us in this difficult time. We have named him by asking a priest at our local Sikh Temple (called a Gurdwara) to open the holy book and read the first complete text on the page. The first letter of the first word read is used as the first letter of his name. We got the letter I. We have decided to name him Isher.

Little man:

Eldest brother comes to visit:

To be fair, it's fucking amazing what miracles can happen within the hospital walls, many congratulations and getting through what must have been up there as the hardest of times.

Oooooft - well done the wee man for fighting a good fight and for having a such a loving family. Certainly puts perspective on things in terms of what really is important!

Congratulations to you all.

Wee bit of politics - sorry. When you read things like this you wonder how those who want to privitise the NHS sleep at night - knowing that less and less Ishers will survive.

NHS does take a lot of knocks ... but they also do an amazing job which doesnt get the press it deserves.

As for NHS/nurses/doctors etc, there will always be a few who you don't agree with and who maybe get you riled, but on the whole, the NHS is an amazing service - there when you really need it. We all complain about paying taxes etc, but when you need their service and they do deliver it, it all pails into insignificance. There are obviously issues with the system, I am not foolish to think it always works for everyone, but the benefits outweigh the failings, at least in my opinion.
