I've been lurking for a while and really appreciate all of the information that everyone here has been providing and thusly educating me on my d. I went in to the dealership on Monday and had some work done. I asked about the update and I was told there was another EGR update but "other" software was updated too. Here's pdfs of what I have...

Post software update update

After driving the car around today I've noticed that the gear shift changes are SIGNIFICANTLY smoother and I highly recommend you guys checking into getting it done.

Thanks a lot for this. Would you mind sharing your dealer name? Like Moritz BMW or BMW of Dallas or ? I was guessing one of these because of your location DFW.

Yes, you are right about EKP, my bad.

EGS is the gearbox module and it should be updated. At least software number was correct.

So how can we get the dealer to do a full update?

I've tried telling them about the gearbox (jerky in DS mode when coasting) but they just fobbed me off. I'm under warranty.

I got my dealer to look into this for me and they said that my transmission is currently at this version. It was included in the torque limitation update.

There's no point in doing a full update as there isn't a new module available over here for the gearbox.. Unless you want all the other updates that you may not notice.

What other updates are there for us? if they are not noticeable then what's the point?

So would changing the gearbox oil be the only option for us? The jerkyness isnt that bad, hardly notice in normally.

Wait, are some of you suggesting that this update can be applied in our own garage with the right equipment - equipment that is readily available?

Equipment is available over the inet. You can buy proper cable for around $800 and use your laptop. The other option is to contact some of the remote coders on the forum that have invested in that cable and pay them to remote code it. They will send you the cable and point you where to download the software required.

You really need to be careful with these types of updates. I really don't recommend doing them yourselves. There are issues where a straight update does not work properly requiring a reset to stock - initial values - and then updating multiple components in the right sequence. This happens to service depts at dealers and is why they won't just plug people in every time they are in for service. From what I have read, the reset process can be problematic, takes a long time and requires more than one update. If you don't know the sequence and don't have the intermediate versions you are SOL - tow it to the dealer with some explaining to do -> $$$. Not worth the risk IMO.
