CIC Bluetooth issues

Hi all. Got a e90 lci 2010 with CIC and Bluetooth w/o audio streaming.

My issue is that during Bluetooth phone calls the audio constantly drops out like every 2 seconds or so for half a second and then back so it's impossible to have a conversation. This happens like 50% of the time. Tried different cell phones and that's not it.
My question is this- I was planning to retrofit a combox t have BT audio streaming. Does the retrofitted combox include the Bluetooth module used for phone calls or is it a separate module that I have to change to try and fix my issue apart from the combox ?

Guess I am asking wether or not a combox retrofit might help with my bt phone calls issue

The combox relaces the current blutooth module (TCU) and has built in blutooth for calls and audio streaming. you can also use it to put a USB port in the amrrest if you dont already have one

Thanks ! Basically all I need is the combox + adaptation harness ? What would be the utilization for USB port in armrest ?

correct!

USB in the armrest alows you to conect a media device (phone/MP3 player) to play music on the CIC. Also alows you to charge said device. for the cost of the BMW USB lead and new USB slot in the armrest you may as well add that in while you are doing the retrofit.

I did the combox retrofit after i did my CIC retrofit, a worthwhile upgrade if you ask me

I been looking at the Combox upgrade as well if it helps, I found cheap one here;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1625451611...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

US Version - but seems (also from people on here saying) there is no difference once coded, the US one has an extra socket which we do not use/need.

I am guessing this is what else we need;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-COMBOX...cAAOSwVm5Y~dd2

Other than that I think the coding side is all that is needed! (And a USB socket for you if you needed that)

If you want to re-pin the current connector in the car then you would use the link you sent. i personally built a harness as i wanted it to be easily reversible. i used the below guide;
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=723325

i also have a coding PDF guide and put in the coding section of the forum that describes exactly how to code it all correctly

Would that be an easier option for making the harness?

Edit:

There's also that, not sure if needed. Advice ?

yes i used that one and then got the connector that is on the end of this one;
https://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/en/BM...-TCU-to-Combox

if you make it your self you need to crimp the corect terminal end that fits into the kufatec connector, or just buy the one on the link. read through that thread i posted to explain how to make it properly.

and no you dont need the cables in the second link, well i didnt use them anyway

Thanks for the link with details, will read it !
That one is even better!! thanks, a bit on the expensive side but takes the guessing out of the installation.

any idea what does this mean ?

Combox with Telematic requires an additional FAKRA adapter (on request)

EDIT : figured it out, it's the bmw assist / sos / remote app. useless

Hi again Josh, for some reason I am still a bit confused, so my car currently has the CIC, along with USB/AUX socket already in armrest, and it has factory bluetooth.

Parts wise, I will need this;

1 x Combox
1 x https://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/en/BM...-TCU-to-Combox

1 x https://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/en/ac...in-vw-audi-bmw

+ Coding

Do I need to buy blank wires etc? Or does that kufactec 'blue' plug have nothing in it, and thats why I buy the 5 connector to place inside the blue plug and feed the wires from the other Kufatec harness? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

If you buy the full harness from the first link you don't need the other plug.

Just combox + the full harness from Kufatec + coding.
You might need a MOST terminator in case you have both TCU and MULF.

first things first check your boot and see if you have a TCU or TCU and MULF. if you only have one box its TCU, if it’s one big box will a smaller mounted under its a TCU and MULF. as you already have USB in the armrest you are likely to have TCU and MULF

if you have a TCU and MULF you need to make and adapter with 2 of these for the car side;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/262404640441

there is a different wiring diagram for MULF & TCU

http://www.ebay.com/itm/262404640441
https://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/en/ac...in-vw-audi-bmw

and then the conector that plugs into the combox

Could you confirm that kufatec https://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/en/BM...-TCU-to-Combox works with cars that come with TCU only ?

Right guys, went out and checked it, took some photographs;

One says 'BMW MOST ECE' the other says 'BMW MULF2 High Basis'

So I guess those 2 units come out, and the combox will sit in their place?

Typical it had to be the harder option .. More wiring.

If only there was just a P&P harness for everything lol

Combox will bolt to where the TCU (MOST ECE) currently sits - same mounting dimensions. The MULF will be eliminated. MULF's USB connection will hookup to the combox.

The white antenna on the TCU is for bluetooth. It is keyed differently than the combox connector. You will either have to file off the extra notch on the combox, get an adapter, or just change the connector end to a "universal" socket (part# 61136918328). I did the last option because I had one in my parts bin.

The other antenna connectors can be left disconnected (one is for GPS and the other is for Assist).

Don't forget to get a most-bus terminator.

Personally I chose to just move the pins from my TCU and MULF to the new combox connector. Really isn't that hard, and since the pinouts are documented, it's not hard to revert if I change my mind in the future.

Been reading about it a bit and got confused
I know i can retrofit the USB/Aux connector to the armrest and connect it to the combox but what about the AUX port ? as it is now, from what i understand it's connected directly to the headunit. To make it work with Combox i have to rewire it to the combox, but i can't find any info on how or what cables i need for that.
Do you maybe know ?

I think you could leave your aux wiring as is if you change CDMM_AUX_HU to aktiv

Or if you'd prefer to wire up the aux to the combox, it looks like the pinout is the following:
Aux GND -> Combox Pin 10
Shield -> Combox Pin 22
Aux L -> Combox Pin 23
Aux R -> Combox Pin 24

Thanks A LOT for that. I've spoken to bimmergeeks today as he's gonna help me code the combox to my car and since my cic is on C1A I can use the patch to generate fsc code for bmw apps. He told me you have experience with that and might be able to help. So thanks for that in advance as well

Hey guys, sorry for the thread hijack (again!)

Just to update I got a Combox from eBay (110 from a scrapyard) and a very helpful guy fitted it for me, I believe he is on here but not sure of username.

Unfortunately, my CIC was on the newest firmware (C1A?) And so will be sending it off to a guy who can downgrade the firmware on them.

You don't need to downgrade it. There's a patch for C1A that allows to generate free fsc certificates.
