I don't know, for what its worth, mine is a lease and I am not putting any money whatsoever in paint protection devices -sealants or clear bras etc.

i dunno what type of sealant it is since the cost varies depending on the type, but it's worth it if you'll be keeping it for a while. Mine is white so I did it and it saves the car from swirls and stuff.

The rule of thumb is that any product or add on like that offered by your dealer is 99.9% profit for them and of little or no benefit to you.

The last few years I have become a detailaholic. You can put a sealant on yourself for almost nothing! And no sealant out there lasts more than 6-7 months. Visit autopia.org and educate yourself because maintaining the paint is an ongoing process. I would recomment Klasse AIO and SG as a good cleaner/sealant combination.

DIY. You'll save an incredibly large sum of money and learn a few things in the process. I also find it quite gratifying to take care of the car myself.

I'll said "NO" !!, i got "Perma-Plate" or something like that to put on my E30, it's like a plastic coating for about 5 years then it started to chip off and make ur car look like S*it.

Sealant also seems to allow a sort of film of dust to stick to the car... my mom's rav4 has it and it is crap. Best advice is to wax your car twice a year with Zymol.

It is crap. Probably made by Caltex under the name "touch of class." You are better off using klasse or zaino yourself. As a matter of fact, I just finished an application of z5 & z2 this evening.

AHAHAHA

Sorry, and welcome to the board, no offense, I'm laughing with you not at you. Your salesman's got BALLS. Did he also offer you $500 Scotchguard fabric sealant?

You were right to double check on this one, b/c it's a damn waste of money. Even if there is some protection offered by the "sealant", you could either wax the car yourself for the same protection, and/or have a local shop apply this special crap for alot less than $600.

Good luck!

i sprayed scotchguard myself for the interior....cost only 6 bucks....I'd tell the dealer to screw himself for the $600 sealant. Totally worthless....here's the rule of thumb...if you cannot see the product, then don't buy it. Clear bra is a film so that's better than anything liquid...But definitely wax ur car twice a year at least.

Very high markup item for dealer and dubious benefit for you.

Items like paint sealant were big in the 70's and 80's when buying cars like Hondas where the demand was much greater than the dealers could supply. The dealers would pack what ever they could into their cars and say "take it or leave it".

The old joke was "How many Honda dealers does it take to change a light bulb?

Answer: Three, one to hold the ladder, one to screw in the bulb, and one to add paint sealant, rustproofing and undercoating.
