So today, on the way back from work, my radio went to white noise. I would have thought it was bad reception except that I go down that road twice a day and it's always fine. I thought it was odd. A few minutes later, the audio cut out completely.

I tried turning the volume up, no difference. I tried a CD and the radio, still no sound whatsoever. When I came up to park, the parking sensor sound was fine. It was just everything audio.

I turned the car off, took the key out, put they key in again and still no sound. Then everything went back to normal when I turned the engine on. It's been fine since then.

I have the stock, poverty-spec, non-iDrive sound system. Any ideas? It's never done this before and has got me completely puzzled...
