Question Something hit my intercooler..

I didn't even notice this until I was walking up to my car yesterday. Looks like a piece of metal just ripped thru the lower grill and almost thru the intercooler itself!

Is my car in danger anyway? Should I stay away from going long distances until I get another intercooler? How soon should I look into a new intercooler?

Thanks for any feedback.

Tough to tell, but that might have punctured the system. You can either pull it to test it, but pull it and replace it with a better one. Option 2 sounds better to me.

guys I think hed' know if he punctured the coil.

Sure its a good excuse. Claim it on your insurance and get a FMIC.

But If it had punctured the core youd hear it, also, you can put a paper towel or something light over the hole - have someone actuate the throttle - if it moves, (sucked into the fmic) then youre punctured.

If not youre fine.

Either way id have the insurance guy look at it - girlle is a couple hundred - hard telling what the FMIC is. Have them cut you a check and put it towards a new FMIC and get the grille used.

thanks for advice guys.

I have not seen any codes thrown & no difference in performance.
I guess I have to get in touch with the insurance soon.

You likely have a deductible for the insurance, and if that is the case, it might not be worth it to submit a claim!

No, he wouldn't if it's just a small hole. The papertowel wouldn't suck in, if anything it would blow out, but the diverter valves are there doing their jobs as well so technically there probably wouldn't be any change in pressure just modulating the throttle while the car isn't under load.

If its any decent sized hole at all, it will make some pretty interesting noises under boost. Should sound pretty similar to a paint spray can, but louder.

Yea I do have a $500 deductible but still better than paying almost 2 grand for grill, intercooler, & labor..

Is this something I should NOT be driving with? I have been trying to drive it as gently as I can. This is my daily driver and I doubt I can get a new intercooler put in this week..

I also honestly did not hear anything abnormal. Is there anything else that I would notice? Any differences in temperature anywhere? I did feel like the cockpit was warmer than normal tonight..
