For example DSM, evo, 3kgt. Those platforms advanced quicker than people could grasp.

I too came from a 3000GT VR4 (was single'd) and up until a few years ago, people were still gun-ho for piggybacks.

One thought. Will you announce details of cable requirements so we can be ready in advance for the release?

Yup and ever since Greg released "chrome" (open source) look how fast things advanced. Amateurs are doing things i was tearing my hair out trying to figure out with a piggy back.

Same boat haha. I left that platform for two years, and came back to a full open source ECU. Unfortunately I have plans to sell the car after I finish the engine rebuild. BMWs are too addicting

As a computer engineer that works with embedded systems, I have been keeping a close eye on this. I look forward to contributing to this project in the future!

Just hope they actually make it truly open source.

From what I've gathered, it seems like it truly is a community thing, started and driven by tinkerers. At least it seems to have started that way. Now that's not saying a vendor couldn't offer them some dollars to "work together" and keep quiet, but... I don't get that impression so far.

It's very possible for a group of people (or even a single person) to figure out how to do this in as straight forward of a way as they can, and then give out that solution freely so others can join the innovation party. If I had gotten into tuning earlier, I may have started tinkering with it myself honestly. I've considered many times what it would take for me to make my own auto-tuner for a motorcycle. Not to say it's necessarily easy, but it's not outside the capabilities of a hobbyist is all I mean. So, if this project doesn't make it to completely open source, someone else eventually will. Of that I have no doubt. These cars are just too tunable. "Nature finds a way"

Yea i feel you on that, i was creeping your FB page and saw you working on it . Mine just sits and gets dusty. I talk my self out of working on it because I'm to unmotivated to yank the motor out. Plus some how BMWs are way cheaper to mod and make the same power.

Probably yes. If you can flash with winkfp it should work with this as well

1. I doubt the device will be anywhere near as expensive as a Cobb AP. Also we have no idea what this device is at this stage. It could just be a special cable.

2. The entire thing will be open source. Cobb Pro tunes are encrypted and tools like ATP only allow you to play with tables Cobb has made available. There is still plenty to discover and dig up.

Exciting stuff...can't wait to see what Rombinhood has in store for us.

Make sure its truly open source and not hindered by a proprietary 'device' and you'll win points in many people's books. I know you play a certain level of influence on this, so any guidance from you in that direction would be great.

I think the critical thing that will be open sourced is the information.

The "device", whatever it be cable+laptop+software or something else, may or may NOT be open source. It would depend on what avenue they can use to get the information to the ECU. But if the information is free, anyone else can do what they want with it (include make their own delivery systems).

I do not know what "points" will do for Shiv or Rombinhood ... its e-rep, which for the most is part useless. I think that each person has their own motivations and will make their own choices.

Just curious how many of those who are commenting are really contributing to the efforts?

Will these points shield Rombinhood from anonymous (and not anonamous) threats he has received since revealing this project? I think most reasonable people will be very satisfied to see him release a significantly lower-priced (and more functional) open source flash tuning device and not be dismayed if he makes a little profit for the efforts and risks taken. It appears that some people expect nothing less than everything, for free and right now. Few developers can support such an expectation when they are shelling out their own resources, time and skill to make a product. From the start, I've been encouraging Rombinhood to do what is best for him. Because, as I think everyone will soon see, keeping people like him in the game, for a long time, works out best for the rest of us. People should take an honest assessment of their own contributions before being so quick to judge those of others. I hope I'm not coming off harsh here as that is not my intention. I've just seen firsthand what has been involved in getting this project to its near-release state. It's probably not something I would have attempted to do alone so I'm quick to give credit to where it is due.

Coming and seeing multiple platforms. This can't be more true. This platform is far from established and i see a huge future for it. If you can afford the car and to mod it you can afford to through a few bucks at people to advance it.
