WHAT IF....... ( For all you with 07-08 Idrive )

Ok so most everybody seems to hate the older Idrive as opposed to the new one. Personally I love the look and how you only have the one knob. To me its easy to use and very comfortable when you know how to use it. Now for the what if...

Since you guys cant update your Idrive to the new one... would it be possible to swap your navigation with the idrive of a 7series?? i dont know if this is possible or not but it would seem like a wonderful alternative to be able to have a new 8 way navi screen. Any thoughts..?

that would probably require a retrofit that would cost close to upgrading to the my09 idrive.

but would it be worth it..? I personally think the 8 way navi of a 7 series would be much more interesting. Couldn't you do a swap with a wrecked 7 or something?

You could actually use the same knob from the 3 if you have an '06 w/diagonal moves - just change out the head unit perhaps...?

(I'm talking out of of my *** - just spitballing)

my mom had an 04 745i and now has an 06 750i with the update to the first version of idrive. i MUCH prefer the idrive in my 07 e90 because the idrive in the 7 is very easy to miss ur selection on thus having to rotate the knob further than u have u. unless youve lived with a 7 you wont know what i mean, but trust me, the idrive in everything but the 7 is much better. not to mention the non 7 series idrive allows much more user customization.
