BMW intake and engine fault...dealer story

FYI, I have a 97 335i with the tubular BMS intake set-up. While on a long road trip, i got the "engine malfunction: reduced power" warning message. After shutting the car off and letting it sit for a few minutes, the message no longer appeared and the car ran fine.

Took it to the dealer today to check it out and they are claiming the intake design caused the code due to excessive heat build-up. Personally I don't believe them since I live in Phoenix and the fault actually occurred in Utah at much cooler temps, but wanted to give everyone the heads up.

Bottom line, the dealer claims they can't do anything further unless I put the stock filter set-up back on.

That's funny, because ever since I put in dual cones, I haven't gotten that warning message yet. With the stock intake, I got that warning every so often.

u mean the dual cone setup?
it could actually give you some heatsoak if you're in idle for a while, but i dont see how it could affect anything while the car's on the roll.
