Amplifier $1,000???????
Hi guys BMW wants to charge me $1,000 to replace the stock AMP that is making the speakers sound like they're blown on the AUX function.
RIDICULOUS!! $1000?? Really? I'm thinking this is a chance to go aftermarket, and perhaps update the AMP and speakers. Mine is an 08 with Hi-Fi. Anyone else dealt with this? I wonder what aftermarket upgrades you guys could recommend for both AMP and speakers. ALL INPUT VERY APPRECIATED ! |

Yep, they are pricey.
You can definitely code out the programming, buy a harness and run aftermarket equipment. You'll hit $1k quick. |

If its Hi Fi
Repair resources

If you have Hi Fi you could almost do a fantastic upgrade for that price. Which would include high quality speakers for the front doors and under seats and a non wimpy amp. Hi Fi will not require coding for an aftermarket amp though it is recommended you buy and amp that takes the balanced outputs of the stock head unit such as a Jl audio or Zapco. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=641323 MusicarNW has drop in kits with all the parts necessary and the amp is pretuned for the speakers. Not exactly dirt cheap but its no hassle one stop shopping and the systems are proven configurations . You also get technical support and its not that hard to self install. There are many examples of systems in the above thread for the three different system options BMW offers. Last edited by ctuna; 07-30-2012 at 02:31 PM.. |

the amp is bad because it makes the speakers sound like crap in AUX, how about a CD or radio? If its not all across the bored dont know how it could be an amp. AUX / ipod quality isnt suppose to come close to a CD.

TheyH8n, BMW called back and determined that its the actual radio cluster that needs to be replaced, since it wasn't 'communicating' with the amp any longer (which is functional).
They also said that they see this about once a week at the dealership! That is shocking. Poor engineering. |

I would call the radio guy in those links and get an opinion
I would call the radio guy in those links and get an opinion, a second opinnion.
There have been few on here that reported blown amps but not many that reported bad Head Units for sound issues. http://www.bmwradiorepair.com/?gclid...FccbQgodIEn0Cg |
