Car Stolen - Alpine White 330d

Car was taken outside home last night. Smashed driver side window so knew the security flaw. Live in Upminster so Essex/London borders. Please keep your eyes out for it. It has performance 313 wheels on, JUST FITTED YESTERDAY FFS!!!!!!

Sux to hear this still going on.

WTF????

Your car has been stolen. I really feel sorry for you as you have spent quite a lot on it!

Mate, I wish you have had the security update....by stealer or by me when you were with me.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what does that security update do? I thought it stopped the windows from opening with the fob? Or does it do something else?
Also sorry op to here about your car will look out for it I'm up Nottingham so might not see it.

What is the security flaw and what is the fix..?
Which models does it concern and if this is a flaw will BMW carry out the fix free of charge..?

I have a 2006 335i 4 DR Auto msport should I be worried..?

BMW is only doing updates to 2007-2011 cars.

Cars were being stolen by programming a blank key through the OBD port.

Access could be reached to the OBD port without setting off the proximity alarm.

Many guys moved the port out of reach.

Other cars are affected by the same problem. BMW were just singled out. The internet hysteria was far bigger than the actual amount of cars stolen.

Most of the thefts were concentrated in a few areas too.

Silly for me to think this but is it just me to think that there could be a very few select people on here who have registered, inactive (i.e. barely post) and keep an eye on people's cars / threads etc? Then when they think the opportunity is there, go for the loot?

What 'm saying is... does anybody think we have people on here who are keeping a watchful eye on other people's pride&joy?

Be really sad if that were the case......

Sorry to hear about that mate, hope the Police can find it for you.

^ I think there will always be suspicious people keeping tabs on nice cars, whether it be online or simply on the street.

Thanks for the posts all.

Obd port was hidden but at 2 in the morning and if they are quiet they had time to find it.

Car is very distinctive.
E91
Alpine white with black roof
Performance rear diffuser
313 wheels

Real pain in the arse as im going to sweden in 2 weeks by car so now going to have to buy an old banger for the trip until insurance pay out.

Ill post a photo later on although the cars most probably long gone now

I thought it did. I know dotmit lost his coding but I had my car in last week for the update and it didn't. I checked it too and the window no longer drops.

Yes they can break it, but if you've had the update, in theory then they can't add a new key to the CAS without a real key already being in the slot. Basically means that if you lose all your keys, you're sort of stuffed! But then I'd rather have to fork out for a new CAS and whatnot than a new car.

Plus.. Software update or not, they still have to find your obd port. So if you haven't, get it moved!

OP, I assume your car didn't have the security update? If it did, that'll set a cat amongst the pigeons.

Incidentally, for those of us in Cambridgeshire, these thefts have come to us. More than 5 cars gone across the county in the last 10 days..

With the way people take about the security update it only stopped the windows from going down with a key in the door and the fob. So it stops them from deleting precious keys without a previous one in the slot?

I work for Mercedes on the hgv side, we have the sprinter van which is infered key transfer and they fail all the time. But I can access the electronic ignition switch(EIS) even when the key is down. So it's not just bmw, but people won't pinch a sprinter van well less likely too.

But it will not stop the thieving gits from coming in your house and taking the keys. Which is happening more than cloning the keys.

Another good point here is a tracker, yes most people won't want a car back once it's thrashed about by some low life individual. But if they say take it to lock up somewhere the police might be able to bust a gang in the act. Has happened before. I'm tracker trained and keep thinking about fitting one to my 330d
