Looking for scanning tool to scan headlamp failure

Hi,
I just got my BMW last year and my headlight (the night light) and one of my angel eyes are out. Before I go and blindly by the Xenon lamp and the bulb for the angel eye, is there a scanning tool that can be used to try to figure if the bulb is indeed out or if it's the controller?

If so, anybody out there have one that I can meet you at and do a quick test? I'm in San Jose during the week and in the Peninsula (Coast) on the weekends. I also have family in the East Bay, so could meet up there too.

Thanks!!
