Shipping my car

I live in Los Angeles, but go to school in Baltimore, MD. I am looking for a relatively inexpensive (but still safe and insured) was to ship my car to school after summer for the fall semester.

Does anyone have suggestions or has anyone used a service like this before?

Any suggestions and reviews are welcome.

Thanks!

I am an auto broker
I ship cars on daily basis
I can transport it for $625-$650 insured, open carrier. About 5-7 days. Door to Door service.
I shipped over 72 vehicles and never had any problems.
Let me know when you're ready.

I used an open carrier to ship an 05 Mercury Sable from Kansas City to Philly that my Grandparents gave us.

Cost me about $450 plus some tip I gave him. Guy dropped it off at my office. Great and accommodating service. Trent Enterprises LLC was the name of the carrier. Found them through allamericantransport.net

Rough estimates show, it'll take about 3 days of driving, $400 in gas (assume you get 27mpg), 2 hotel stays @ $100 ea. Not counting food.

Either way really costs about the same. A plane ticket now for August is $200, plus the 400-600 to ship the car.

Your car will make the drive a hundred times, don't bother asking that question "will my car make it?" lol.

Thanks for all of the tips guys!

And as for driving it, I will probably drive it back after winter break, but my parents (and yes, this is going to sound extremely stupid) still think of me as their 'little baby' even though I am now 20 and are petrified of me driving coast to coast (even though my dad did it when he was close to my age).

I shipped my car from NY to AZ. Shitty experience. Shop promised they owned their own trucks. They sent some random ass company who showed up a day late to pick it up. Promised 5 day shipping. After 5 days didnt hear from him for 2 days. Shipping company told me they couldn't get in touch with the driver. Showed up 3 days late. Car was covered in hydraulic fluid from some broken hose. Wound up shorting the guy $200 for the rental car I had while waiting.

tldr; be careful. A lot of companies are complete shit.

Is there a sticky for shipping cars?

I have to ship mine to the west coast in June and will be using the van line my company sets me up with, but need some tips on documenting condition and checking fine print. Its a harrowing experience for a car guy..

No, I'm there studying International Relations and Business. We do have an amazing pre-med program though.

You may want to consider an enclosed trailer for obvious reasons. I believe the cost would run you near $1000.

Uship = Ushit. Stay away.

Go read transportreviews.com, then contact

http://www.transportreviews.com/comp...r-shipping.asp

Where I'm coming from: I am the former Director of Product Management for CentralDispatch.com (was there for 5 years and just left in 2012). CentralDispatch.com is the place where the auto brokers and auto carriers get together to actually move the cars. CentralDispatch is responsible for facilitating ~275,000 auto transports per month. So, I've seen all the brokers, all the carriers, I know their bond information, I know their federal complaints, all that fun stuff.

I'll toot my own horn a bit, but short of someone on here being a driver that has a car hauling rig, there's nobody else that knows more about car shipping than I do (yes, including the guy here who says he's a broker; all it takes is a 2-hour online course and a few thousand dollars in start up capital to become a broker. Not well regulated.)
