After reading a lot of threads regarding the carbon build up on the intake valves Ive decided to do one of a few things.....

First try and get my dealer to do it under warranty.
If that doesnt work I would like to media blast it with walnut shells.

Ive seen people talking about getting it done but I would rather invest in the tools and do it my self.

Has anyone done this them selves?

Im thinking it should be pretty easy.

I just had it done. Honestly I would not invest in the tools to do it yourself... You have to remove the factory / or mod air intake - all the piping to go along with it... then you have to take off the other plastics and covers, etc to get to the manifold - then you have to make sure all the holes are plugged up everywhere... because this walnut shell stuff is very small and will get everywhere... then you have to scratch out the carbon chunks - then vacuum (and you really need 2 people while doing this) and then you have to blast the shell media into the manifold and make sure to get the corners and sides, etc... then let’s say you finally do all of that... then you have to clean everything... make sure its 100% - which means also getting all the walnut media out of the cylinders area - and taking the pan off the bottom of the car to get rid of the media that might have fallen below. Then you need to turn over the engine a few times to make sure all the cylinders are pumping as they should... finally after all that is done - you need to change the gaskets, put everything back together, and then do a cold start crank on the car... Then clear any codes that might be present from taking it apart (mine didn't throw codes, so that was good...). So imo it’s not worth the investment for you to do it one time every 50k miles. If you were opening a shop and doing it professionally, then I'd say you could make the investment... but it took us almost 6 hours to get everything done right... not rushing through it... I've had another garage quote 3 hours -but after researching, I found they really don't do as good a job because they just plug up a tool that blast in one area... not the sides. If you are near Atlanta - I can give you a recommendation...

Guys what type of compressor did you use?

Speaking to a blasting media specialist today he reccomended going with a 14 cfm compressor for walnut shell blasting (12 cfm at minimum) which are almost $900 alone, then the blast kit with nozzle is $175, and $100 for a vac...

The prices start to escalate quite quickly when you have to spend that much on a compressor... I was hoping to buy one of those cheap 2HP compressors for $200?

Can you do the blasting at short intervals (10 seconds stop, then wait 10 seconds) with a cheap compressor? And can you just use a domestic vacuum cleaner to suck the shells out?
