Trading in 2 cars for 1?
As were moving to London in the next 2 months (Still need to find somewhere to live) we will only need 1 car and my OH wants rid of hers.
Is it worthwhile trading in both cars, BMW 330D SE with 87,000 miles and MINI COOPER 1.6D with 70,000 miles We’re probably in negative equity on both as we've owned them for less than a year. I did put a 20% deposit down on the BM so not sure. Or is it a better idea to use WBAC for 1 and trade in the other car? This would depend on how much WBAC offer and what the final payment on both is. I've not got this info yet. Just wondering if anyone has traded in 2 cars against 1 before and is it a good idea? |

I looked at it many years ago and the problem is that the dealer uses the "discount" on the new car to over-value your old car. When you have 2 old cars this means that the discount is split and it makes the trade in values look poor. Really, all you can do is get the numbers for different approaches and see what works for you.
I wound up selling one car privately, which I wouldn't recommend. It was a nightmare. |

Selling to wbac when your car is financed I guess is tricky unless you have enough in the bank to clear the finance yourself then recoup the money back by selling.
If both cars are only 1year into finance they probably are in neg eq but without knowing all the facts it's an assumption. If I chopped two in for one car I would be rather bitter paying off neg eq pushing up the price of a single car might be worth just keeping two! |

Dealers will try to do you a deal. One of my friends recently traded in an 06 Focus and a 09 Golf diesel estate against an M135i. Still got a 10% discount on the car and 0% on the 50/50 deal.
Your situation is a bit different though due to the financing. Nobody can really say what will happen until you get settlement figures. I wouldn't even like to guess if you are in negative equity or not (most people are 1 year in but guessing both cars were used due to mileage so really who knows). All advice would be academic at the moment.

Cheer for the advice gents,
I would keep both cars but the OH wants to "burn" her car and get rid of the monthly payments. She's fed up driving and will be using public transport when we eventually move to the big smoke. I've told her it’s a false economy but we all know what women are like Will just need to wait and see what sort of deal i can do with the stealers. |
