Full scale deflection

Drove from Odense, Denmark to Brussels yesterday. Due to a late departure, needed to make progress and fortunately throughout most of Germany, traffic was very light... so I achieved... full-scale deflection on the speedometer

160mph or 260km/h

Although the GPS speed reading was 'only' 245km/h

Still over 150 mph!

Fast enough for me

How long were you able to keep this up? Or was it short stints?

The top speed was only for a moment, but 120-150mph (indicated), that was for a long way. You can make a lot of progress when you are covering 35 kilometres every 10 mins.

100mph feels really slow after that!

I've had mine off the clock "in germany" and it's shocking how much faster 140+ feels than even 110 etc. You have to focus alot more

when i was younger and a bit mental, i once did this in a vauxhall cavalier V6. Reached the end of its 140mph clocks, with a GPS speed of 137mph. I also did 147mph in a cavalier V6, but that was its top speed, the clocks were rated to 160.

The 2.0 16v cav was the only car ive ever taken to its end stops. I've calmed down a lot these days, wouldn't want to find the top end in my 325i. A potential 152mph, so 155+ indicated. No thanks.

I did drive my old 530D at about 135mph for a sustained period though, as i was in a hurry to get along a section of private road . It is remarkable how much ground you cover at that kind of speed though, the 530D felt smooth, planted and solid. Superb machine.

155 is nothing to be scared of on the right stretch of road!

My 07 320d with Evolve remap has seen 245-250kph (150mph+) indicated quite a few times in Germany, level road. Granted, it accelerates fairly quickly to 220-230, but then it's slow progress . Nice side effect on the 2 ltr diesel though is exhaust temperatures, they are 700C+ while doing this. That will burn any soot residue between exhaust valves and DPF to ash. A normal DPF regeneraton will try to achieve 500-600C, but that temperature is only between oxy cat and DPF (the oxy cat is like 2" in front of the DPF, and oxidates the injected, unburned fuel).

So far, I've managed

0-160 mph in 1/4 mile (my previous drag car)
171.8 mph, in 1.25 miles (standing start) in a Rover!!!! (TOTB 3)

I've been quicker elsewhere though ;-)

My car gets to 140mph a little too easily now.

Audi A4 tdi refused to pull over for a few miles on a recent journey, and just chose to try to out accelerate me LOL. He pulled over at 100mph, I only kept it planted for what seemed like 5 seconds or so!!

Ahem, Gotta love Germany.

186mph in an 09 Nissan GTR....I wasn't driving but it didn't really feel that fast..felt very planted and stable at that speed. had to double check

I'm not a big fan of top speeds, especially these day's as you don't know who's behind you.

The derestriction sign is one way (looks a bit like a NSL sign).

Noting that people are now overtaking you with a 100km/h speed differential is another.

Note some areas are 120 at certain times of day and derestricted other times.

When I was younger and braver (read foolish) once managed near on 170 in my R34 GT-R with stage 1 mods on a private road. It was still pulling too but I ran out of bottle so backed off. A*se clenching is not the word. It's amazing how a slight bend in the road feels like a very tight turn at those speeds. When I got back down to a cruising speed of 120, it felt like I was crawling.

Not really interested in that kind of thing anymore to be honest although I would like to go to a Vmax event at some point.
