What's wrong with my CCC iDrive?

Video:

Controller knob still has feedback. Tried doing the reboot method, no luck.
Ejected navigation cd, no luck.
Is my CCC dead? Screen and controller seem to be fine.

I've scheduled a service appointment for this weekend in the meantime.
It's been working fine, until two days ago when we got blasted with -40 weather.

more than likely it's throwing a code and possibly an update may fix it. or you will have to replace the entire CCC. im in the process of getting my CIC replaced for a similar issue. Mine wont load the harddrive (no navigation, no local music) and it reboots until it can load it. some days it'll crash once, others, 7-8 times every time i start the car..

This is pretty much what mine does, although I have no hard drive to load, so what's the deal?
Sometimes, I feel like its a battery issue in a way, but eh.. I'm not too sure what is going on.

Not being covered under CPO is a big thing too. I'd rather throw the $135 I'd pay for a diagnostic towards a new battery. Even if it didn't fix my problem, I'm still on the stock one, so it's pretty much due for a replacement anyway.

I had mine diagnosed at the dealer and thought battery as well, but they tested it and it wasnt that. They said the crash logged an error and it was stating that the CIC needed to be replaced. Since it keeps crashing on you, maybe start at the battery but look to the search here for the Red Screen Of Death issue. It may be helpful for you since you have the CCC.

without wishing to offend anyone... basically they are a piece of junk

check it out (a uk company that specialises in engineering out the hopeless quality of electronic components fitted to most cars these days)

entertainment

rest of the car

http://www.bba-reman.com/content.asp...s_and_tips#bmw

I came across then when a GM branded car's bosch abs played up... turns out all bosch abs modules have much the same appalling design flaws... these guys repair it better than when it came out new

Try This

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 20 minutes...

re-connect after 20 minutes...

car will then reset and perform full MOST network scan and things might work again!

worth a shot..

up to you of course.

Found out negative 10mm nut was missing. Went to store, got a replacement.

Car is now sitting in the garage with the terminal off. Here's hoping.

No luck with a battery disconnect. Left it over night and same thing.

The thing will reboot until it does stay stable and come on. I canceled my last week appointment cause it was working for a few days straight, but now it reboots every start up until it stays on. Guess I'll see if the dealer can grab some faults from MOST.

ask them for a good will replacement. thats what i just got. I have two cars with my dealer and they understand they want to keep me as a customer. It doesnt hurt to ask. Explain its the reason you bought the car and cant believe something this integrated into the car is not covered under the CPO (if you have one)

My car is CPO, but I didn't buy it from the dealer I currently go to. My SA is already playing with the numbers, and it would've costed more than that before tax, so I'm thankful for that.

I gotta be a real customer like you first, before I can get something like that. Soon enough.

Dropped my car off yesterday to get the CCC replaced.
My SA said "programming" would take "hours and hours."
Do you guys think they are doing a whole progman update? Because a single update through winkfp would only be a few hours, right?

Mine is a 06 e90, 325i, date 10/2005, comfort, navi, n52, 49.6k miles, battery replaced SEP 2010.
I notice long cranks to start the car in the morning, two weeks ago the CCC got stock at rebooting mode (Only switching from BMW symbol and blank screen, no audio). A week later, fifth cylinder coil failure (OBD 2). No OBD2 battery fault (if that exist).

I am leaning to believe that it is an electrical issue what cause all this. I am taking the risk of DIY instead taking it to BMW dealer. All OEM parts, coils, spark plugs, battery (Bosch), CCC (eBay) and INPA/NCS/SSS software (eBay).

Any lesson learned will be appreciated. I will post the outcome with tips.

believe it or not, most of the time programming fails and they have to start it over again. Ive had a car in for programming for 3 days because their computer, not my car, kept having problems.

Right, I'm just trying to figure out if they're only programming my CCC through winkfp, or just upgrading everything through progman since it's easier.

If they used an autologic, I know it would pretty much be like progman.

Dealership's don't use Progman anymore and dealerships have never used WinKFP (NCSExpert/WinKFP/Tool32 are all BMW engineering tools used by their engineering departments).

Progman was discontinued back in 2008 in the dealerships and replaced with ISTA/P (part of the ISPI system) which is much more reliable and faster then Progman ever was.

ISTA/P will want to reprogram every module in the car that requires an update because BMW works on the concept of integration levels instead of individual software versions for modules). Although most of those take a few minutes, the CCC can take a couple hours.

Honestly, and this is just me, I wouldn't have paid $1k to replace the CCC unit and just retrofitted a CIC for a couple hundred more. 100x faster and 10x more functionality.

Okay, thanks for the clarification on the updating.

I looked into the CIC, but it definitely wasn't only a couple hundred more. It was almost a thousand more. At the very least, it was like $500 more. I wasn't going to source used parts off eBay, then have the trouble of trying to get them updated, coded, etc, where it could potentially be bad and fail sometime down the line again.
I got a brand new part, along with all my car software updated supposedly, backed by warranty from an actual BMW dealership.

The loaner I got while this is being done has NBT, which is nice. But after I had it set to where my radio was playing. I didn't pay attention to it. The wow factor of how fast it is and the eye candy was nice, but I would've gotten over it soon enough. I barely use nav.. CIC/NBT is really nice, but it just didn't seem worth it to me.

Got the call back from my dealer today.
Going to pick it up tomorrow morning.

Will my coded things like digital speed be need to be recoded you think?
Also, my car has an OEM alarm retrofitted. Will that need to be programmed again?
