Sounds like a misfire

Sounds like an ignition coil failure or a fouled spark plug.

so i bought my car used from a private party and the previous owner did tell me that he has modded the car before....i spoke to someone on the forums and they tell me that the tuner codes would have cleared after 3 driving cycles after the mod has been taken off however i just want someone else to confirm this fact as i dont wanna take my car to the dealer for servicing and have my warranty voided.....if you think getting it scanned is a safer way to go...how much does a shop usually charge for a scan?

If BMW found the mods before they could flag the VIN and deny coverage under the warranty, I would call BMW and make sure you have a full warranty and if you do and want to keep it that way find someone with a scan tool and clear any codes that would point to mods.

the scans are usually free. that's from my own experience. they tell you what the problem is and you can either choose to have them fix it for you or not.
