Tamron 18-200mm or Tamron 28-300mm

Which would you pick if the (used) price is essentially the same? ($150 for 200mm, 150-200 depending on how i negotiate on the 300mm)

I am a complete amateur.. who wants a telephoto lens to take pictures of stuff far away

I have a Canon Rebel XSi

TIA

the images on both are going to be soft, it's a massive focal range, and sharpness suffers as a result. but if you really want the range, go for the 300mm since you already have a lens that can get you down to 17 or 18mm that you can carry with you right?

I have the base 18-55mm lens yes

I got the 300mm and haven't really used it yet but I'm excited to use it this weekend

Make sure you stop down the F-stop to between 8-16 if you can help it to keep the pictures as sharp as possible.

You'll enjoy the extra reach for sure, and you'll probably end up leaving that lens on your camera most of the time when you see how they look compared to the kit lens

Enjoy, and I know we all will be looking forward to seeing some of the shots
