Im about 90% sure this part of the vert is the issue. put ur top where that piece gets vertical and make sure its clipped in..

if not or broken like mine or if u break it like i did. replace it and it will more than likey fix the issue i taped mine down and it drove quiet and smooth. but yeah the issue is in that area.

Thanks for that Sammy. I'm pretty sure the sound that sounds like a sledgehammer hitting my drivers side rear quarter panel isn't in the roof portion, but more likely the latch at the base of the roof toward the trunk.

It is difficuilt to capture while driving...Sometimes it sounds like it's in the door panel, or fold down seat, or in the trunk. I have not been to the dealer yet, but it would be helpful if someone out there actually had this noise repaired already. The "dealer experience" would go more smoothly if I actually had something for him to listen to.......
The clunk noise pop every single I hit a bump or rough surface and I checked the rear seat is intact, it got came from the roof top.
My SA forward all repair orders on my vehicle and I will fax it to a lemon law attorney and see what they can do to help.

Sammy,

I checked mine and they were in good shape, when both front windows were down an inch and the rattle went away.

Mine has the same annoying clunking sound, it also sounds like it's coming from the rear drivers side quarter panel area. It only happens on rough pavement or when i corner it like a mad man. definitely annoying tho as i flip my head around every time i hear it.

Dude, you need to involve BMWNA.

My e93 with 60K + miles made some rattling noise in hot weather.
Its in extended warranty so I had to pay around $400, but it was fixed.
No noise after that. There is something wrong here. Don't believe in anyone who says e93 making noise is normal.

Your car is brand new, it Must not make any noise. Go after BMW.
Can you please share what they did on your vehicle?

Getting mine checked at Morristown BMW today.
I included videos for the service adviser and went for a test drive with the shop steward, who definitely agrees this is a problem.

Remember in cold weather metal shrinks and it could cause squeaking and rattling, However if it doing it all the time you have a problem.

I have an E93 328i and I get the same popping- clicking noise in my car. Sounds like its coming right above my head and could be the window but its the top. BMW recently replaced the top due to some lines/cords snapped near the rear deck and the top would not open or close.
With this new top now I have this annoying new noise.. Doesn't look like the problem in the picture.

Hey brother!
Well, for me, it's like a loud banging coming from the rear driver side quarter panel over rough pavement.
Not so much a squeak.

It all began with a clunking noise took it in for repair within three weeks of delivery since then the problem is getting worse.
I understood the hot & cold factors play a major role but is that mean I can't drive & enjoy the vehicle during evening when temp is cold?

That is where the original started and I'm glad to see OP experienced the same problem I'm having.

yea man I can understand, Go to the BMW dealer even though you may be with out warranty but they will give you an estimate or let you know your options. You could even blame it on "corrosion" which is a 10 year warranty i think

Let me tell you something brother, when the top is properly set, greased, and aligned, there should be no noise what so ever! I can't begin to tell you how many times my car has been in. I've posted countless videos on here. My CPO warranty is running out and I am going to be contacting BMWNA to inquire about getting free extended coverage on JUST the top and related mechanisms. It can be very annoying, very embarrassing, and very persistent. Do feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns.

Have you tried to lube the seal with grease? I used to do mine in the spring and summer and it was quiet, other wise creaking, squeaking and clunking. Seriously, it worked.

This car has been in the shop for six repair orders and dealers had perform all lube & grease to hinges & seals, some thing is obviously wrong with the vehicle.

Sorry to hear...I feel your pain. Just spent 2K on two O2 sensors, one injector, plugs and a coil. Needs more work but at least its back on the road.
