When to get serviced

Hi guys

I know this is probably a really dumb question but....I have a 2010 e90 325i that is 12 months old in a couple of weeks. At what interval are you meant to get it serviced? I cannot find anything anywhere in the books or the BMW website that actually sets out the service intervals - I'm aprevious Holden Caprice owner and used to being spoon feed when to get serviced. So far I have just had one "pit stop" done at 6 months. Car has done 10,250 Kms.

Was it a dumb question?

I think your next service is at 30 000km

Im on 18,xxx kms and have yet to have my first service, when i start my car it tells me i need to get it done in 8000 kms...

Bmw has no service interval. Its whenever the computer tells u.

Every 12mths the car will tell you it needs a "service inspection'.... but BMW's Condition Based Service notifications will tell you when you need parts/fluid changes.

But fuck that, at 12mths I went for the 'service inspection' and got the oil changed as well... it had only done 12000kms... but 12mths is plenty of time for my liking for a batch of oil...

CBS will generally only say change oil at 30000kms or 2 years!!!! -- BS if you ask me!!

Yeh lots of debate on service intervals with the newish service system. Apparently the car feels (well there must be some logical calculation) when it needs a service and you'll get the "BING" and associated warning light to inform you it's time. Plus as mentioned the annual "look" service.

I personally am not too concerned with the new system but if you drive hard it certainly can't hurt to throw in an extra oil change here and there

I'm on 6000km and will do my first oil/oil filter change next week. I will also send a sample of the oil away for testing just in case i have warranty problems later on

I service the car every 888kms as i believe it's fengshui for the car.

Thanks guys for your feedback - it is now so much clearer...just like mud. I hope my car is as smart as you say it is and it will tell me when to get him serviced. I will go get a pit stop done shortly so see what they say.

Don't sweat it dude it'll be fine. As mentioned previously if you are concerned change out the oil more often.

Hi PerthBMW,
The guys are correct about your BMW. The vehicles electronic programing will give you pryer warning and inform you of when service is due. The new synthetic lubes in your BMW more then able to operate the required intervals under normal conditions.
What you need to consider is your enviromantal conditions in Perth. Do you get dust storms? If so, then there are several filters that should be replaced before the manufacturers (car computer programmed) recommendations. Engine air filter (outer section) and the airconditioning enviro filter should be at least checked every year. And most of all, the engine oil filter (I know the manufacturer says that it' not needed) MUST be replaced at least every 12,000 kl. On older and high mileage BMW's the oil filter should (in my humble opinion if you want to continue running on the same engine) be replaced at least every 6,000 kl.

I'm pretty sure that when you start the car, the trip meter/gauge shows you the estimated travel distance to your next service as well.

You can probably access it through iDrive as well... I presume all BMWs now come with that?

Not all bmw. It's still optional in most models.
