Pilkington made windshields - any recalls?
Do you guys find them to be very brittle, soft? I mean I've had one replaced already and year later it has a small gauge in it and hairline crack, it was scratched during installation from the inside (something i noticed only half year later) and I got a ton of little insect induced specks on it from summer driving.
Is this a sh.t brand that makes crap windows or I got defective windscreen? First time it was replaced due to big rock chip.

I think i used wrong word, i meant something like a gash, like just a deep scratch. English is not my first language.... and stay on topic.

I had a chip repaired and got hit again with those gouges that you mention...maybe it's a case of they don't build them like they used to. My other car has its OEM original and in 12 years it doesn't have the same type of chips/gouges that the 31 mo. old BMW windshield does....

My windscreen was a rock chip (from a very minor incident) and countless bug specks. I have never had such a "soft" windscreen (for want of a better word). All the others I have had have been tougher and have not had these problems.

i SEE who made it because there is a stamp on it with Pilkington logo. I heard there was another OEM manufacturer for these (like Bridgestone and Michelins for tyres).

mine seems pretty soft as well. i was claying it and noticed spots that wouldnt come off....it was pitted. never had that happen on any of our other cars. unless the previous owner liked to tailgate gravel trucks.
i think pilkington might be the only brand. they make glass for mercedes too i believe.

All OEM windsheilds are soft, or at least that is what i have observed through many many many threads on e90post. As far as im concerned, despite how soft they are, they still are the best because they are 100% OEM, and you cant beat that.

BMW WINDSHIELD s*ck to be honest. I mean its just not good enough . I got all the stuff you all talk about the whole day except crack and stuff. A chip which is minor and it hasnt gone inside the windscreen(luckily)
NEWAYS nothing we guys can do. factory wanna save money by compromising on the quality, let them do it till they go bank rupt.
