That's One reason why....
When I 1st put on the H&R my ride was real ruff, but I didnt mind, then I upgraded my tires. I had the General Exclaim's and they were good for the money. I put on the Michelin PS2's... Holy shit, a world of difference. It almost feels like I did an entire suspension upgrade.. It's crazy what tires can do let alone be one of the most important things that need to be done.

Let me know if I can help you, if you decide to go with the KW set up. I will try to hook you up on a set.
H&R and Eibach are two different companies, so the design in their springs are probably not the same. Not all springs are created equal! Technically, with stock wheels/tires (as long as they are not run flats or something with a very stiff sidewall) they should be more comfortable than a bigger wheel. At least, or hopefully, you only paid around $240 for the springs, so cut the losses and headaches now, and upgrade to the KW coilovers. This is my opinion. Let me know if I can help you out in anyway, as far as decisions and any questions you may have goes. -Don |

You have to upgrade your shocks. Many people think they can get away without doing this, but it is common knowledge that unmatched springs/shocks will give the results that you are experiencing. |

It's because your stock shocks are blown. Lowering the car with springs should always be accompanied by well matched shocks, and stock shocks are not well matched.

npdan-you only have h&r spring? i thought you had shocks as well?
im rolling on stock runflats so maybee ill try another tire/wheel combo. but nevertheless in going with kwv2 once i get the money. don-can you pm me a price for the kwv2? thanks. 3ondubs-i understand what your saying completely and i agree, just that i lowered my e-46 far more than the e-90 (2.0inch)and the e-46 felt like stock. the e-90 just rides like crap after lowering it only (1.5inch). i think h&r just didnt get the spring rate right on this one. my e-46 wasnt even sport package and it felt better. maybee thats why? just trying to get an idea why the e-46 (lowered more than the e-90) felt better. chowbow- shocks/struts are not blown. it felt like this directly after install(first bump i took) and i did recheck evrything to ensure proper install. even took a ride in my friends car with the same setup. same result.

Ah OK, then it's just the stock shock not matched up at all with the spring even when not blown... Just get shocks, it'll make it better.

I'm guessing that they were both bumpy, but that it is more noticeable for you in the E90 because the E90 is slightly heavier and its OEM suspension (compared to the E46's OEM) is relatively smoother. Either way, like chowbow said, getting Koni Yellows will solve your problem. That's the setup that I'm running right now and it rides pretty close to OEM in terms of smoothness. |

This is one of the reasons why we recommend getting shocks & springs at the same time. It saves you from having to pay for labor twice and wont kill your stock shocks and ride comfort.

Yup, the ride on H&R sports with oem shocks was pretty bouncy and feels out of control at times.
I am much happier now with H&R Coils.

Yea, currently im only on the H&R Springs but every day im leaning more and more toward pulling the trigger on some coilovers. Even though I still enjoy the ride, I get this sensation that my cars front end is lifting off the ground "a floating feeling" when travelling at high speeds... Feels kinda sketchy and I think it's due to having stock shocks... If that makes sense...

But for a ride height that is very close to the OEM sport height, the eibach's might not be the best investment (might be better to just get the oem sport suspension). |

I let all my customers know that by just throwing springs on, they have a temporary solution on their hand. Some people don't care about the ride/handling its more important the drop to them, most people have leases and dont care that they'll be blowing out their shocks in 35-40k Probably with a non matching spring (longevity is hard to determin, driving styles make a big difference on that).
Spring/Shocks - are good combination but they do end up costing you around minimum of $800 normally. At that point I start to question why one wouldnt want to get into a coilover, a KW V1 is in the $1200 range but we could also put someone in an ST coilover for under a $1000(same as a KW). Benefits of a coilover is now having a properly matched travel arm stroke, dampening thats paired up as well. Sport springs from like H&R isnt really that bad its a mild drop and lasts, a Race spring is really harsh on suspension - I think one just has to be aware of the shortcomings of just doing springs. (I think we can agree its not a bad temporary solution). |
